Some people forget how far he's come in such a short space of time. That improvement won't stop, and TP is looking forward to working on him in pre-season. He's going to be great for us.

This with bells on, running out infront of TV cameras and 25k + fans is a massive leap from 4k at Bishop's Stortford. Not to mention the caliber of players you are up against! All in 2 years....

Which again begs the question - what on earth were Crystal Palace Fc doing putting faith to the tune of nearly £10mill in such a player?

We've gotten away with it this time because we are staying up.

We didn't pay half that amount for Dwight Gayle.

4 year contract plus transfer fee = £10mill (£6 mill WAS the transfer fee according to Darren Ferguson and he should know)

Edited by Kermit8 (02 May 2014 10.03am)

It may well raise to £6m, but the fee we paid isn't that.

It's kind of irrelevant anyway. The kid didn't pick his own fee, and you could argue that the goal at Villa away was priceless in terms of the belief that it gave the squad, and helped us to push on. We've lost just seven games since that goal went in.

It was my dream to play for Palace and to make my debut. I've always played for the club so if I'm playing here, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

Dunno but I'd trust the accounts that were filed by the club.

which show how much?

That show we spent £16.25m in summer transfers. Which leaves a total spend of £10.25m for the other 15 players and with what are perceived to be known about the other transfers, it doesn't add up. I do realise that several of those we got in were free.

What Kermit always forgets is that it's a fee of up to £6m but I'll always keep reminding him of the facts. It's akin to saying we got £15m for Wilf, we didn't.

£1.5mill on top of the original down payment of £4.5mill was paid in January I believe.

Your facts are not up to date.

Yeah, I've read the poster on here that keeps insisting that, which is fairly similar to believing you and your £10m price tag.

....which, obviously, tallies with Darren Ferguson's remarks.

Anyways, we are quibbling about £1.5mill when we are just about to win £75mill. And Dwight helped even if a only a bit part to achieve that. Like Wilbraham.

For anyone to believe that you can snatch a youngster from The Championship League and transplant him into The Prem and then expect him to come immediately good denies all rational thought. Obviously he still needs to learn his trades and gain more experience so lets send him out on loan for half a season and see how he does.

Yes I agree I didn't start this thread to blame Gayle. I started it to enquire where everyone saw a game where Gayle was good and lively because he has looked completely out of his depth. He is a good finisher no doubt but as someone said above it takes more then a great finish to be a premier league striker.

Not so sure about that, ask Gary Lineker.

Or Michael Owen or Darren Bent, everyone also wants us to sign Rhodes when his general game isn't great , not premier league level from what I've seen anyways , but he is a fantastic finisher.

Who played for a team not fighting relegation. The fact you even compare Gayle to Lineker is laughable.
