A massive TWO seats it appears as of 22.13 and exit polls.

Congratulations, Matthew.

So far:

UKIP - 4.5m votes, 1 seat
SNP - 1.5m votes, 55 seats

Where are the legions of TUSC MPs then?

I'm afraid it might be time for PR and I didn't think I would ever say that.
UKIP do speak for a significant proportion of the country and they deserve more representation in Parliament. They will make gains in by-elections.

Nothing in the South Thanet campaign was about the qualities of the other candidates. It was all about keeping Farage out. All the nasty literature and smears from UAF et al. there paid off.

South Thanet have "not" Farage, but have lost someone who would have actually represented them on a local platform.

1 seat from 13% of the vote. That's why UK politics is such a joke.

Yep FPP for ya...wholly unrepresntatvive and plays to the mainstream, status quo (no not Francis and Rick) and the corporate and ruling classes establishment - and why voting, unless you are the type who has a strong and totally unbending political standpoint regardless of circumstances, in its present state is ultimately futile unless you are one who would vote for a bowl of noodles provided it had the correct colour rosette.

As a percentage on overall UK voting so far a true representation of a national vote would look and transfer to seats like this, give or take(I feel like Peter Snow)

Con 239
Lab 199
SNP 31
Lib Dead 50
UKIP 81
Green 24

UKIP got 6% to 7% around here and lots of other places too. I wouldn't like them to have 13% of the seats in Parliament going by that just because they managed to get well above 13% in a small minority of areas.

They represent a few pockets of the UK quite well but not the main swathe. They just didn't have enough broad appeal.

Er..Nige. You upped the vote 26% in Thanet South for UKIP and Tories lost 9% so you be talking bollocks with regard to that constituency. You fcvked it up, man. You are not their MP after all that media exposure.

No no no. Completely wrong. They are the 2nd largest party in 188 of the constituencies tonight. They represent 13-14% of the voting public.

You wouldn't like them to have 13% of the seats because you don't like them? Hmm.... OK.

By your argument: the SNP got 0% of the seats in my area. They did well in a small minority of areas. How many seats should they have then?

I would be interested to know in how many of those constituencies they polled near or above 13%. Not a huge amount i'll wager.

SNP may not have won the 13% but they did win the MPs. Something UKIP had genuinely hoped for too not so long ago.

As usual you are talking out your ass again.
If UKIP gained 6% or 7% of votes where you live or in some other places as you mention then they must also have gained 19% - 20% of votes in other areas because the facts don’t lie - UKIP have polled somewhere around 13% of the national electret. If you take into account the lack of UKIP support in Wales, N Ireland and Scotland then the level of English votes for UKIP is probably up near or around 20%.
If I were you maybe I would spend more time wondering why your lot, the Greens polled so badly.

Or...they got 25-35% in a minority of sympathetic and target areas and the significant majority was 6-10% in others to make that 13%.

If the whole of Manchester and the NW voted for 'Betty's Hot Pot Party' would you be calling their share '13% of the national electorate' or a regional anomaly?
