This one is for older contingent , i have got this very very vague memory of my dad taking me to watch Palace play Real Madrid, I am 59 now and i think the match was in the early 60's i was about 7 or 8, my dad isn't around now , and something that has stuck in my mind also was the the match was to mark to turning on of some new floodlights... Can someone clarify this for me.....

You are right 1962/3 I believe. Madrid were the biggest club in Europe and I think they won 4-3. I was living abroad at the time but have got a programme somewhere. Dont know how CP managed to get them over.

Covered in the club's history on good old Wikipedia. Refer to the Arthur Wait years 1958-1974.

The match was played on the evening of 18th April 1962 to celebrate the new floodlights.

They wanted a fee of 10,000 pounds to turn up - which we paid. An absolute fortune in those days!...

I have a proud record of climbing to the top of all four flood light pylons during closed season

If memory serves these were the tallest and largest in the country? ??
