Always surprises me how long these things drag on at Palace. Elsewhere the clubs make an offer, agree terms and its all done and dusted in 48 hours from when it was leaked. At Palace 3/4 weeks later and its still going.

It's like it at every club. Look at Chelsea signing Costa, real chasing Bale, Barca signing Fabregas, Utd signing Fellaini. I could go on and on.

Why does everyone get in such a state on here

It's not like that at every club. Steve Bruce wanted Livermore and signed him a couple of weeks ago. Steve Bruce also wanted Robert Snodgrass and also signed him a couple of weeks ago.

No-one is "getting in a state" over our lack of signings but it's human nature to want the team strengthened and to express an element of impatience if nothing seems to be happening, especially if the targets that we are allegedly interested are being snapped up elsewhere

What wages are Hull throwing at players though?

If we offered Caulker £62k a year instead of thee £42k a year chances are he'd be our player by now.

I think you mean a week or we won't sign anyone lol

Or I'm living in 1986...

Yeah lets completely bollox our wage structure, upset others, pay £8m for a defender that absolutely melted last season.

No thanks.

Dawson for me!

If he doesnt want us for what we have offered then F88 him!

I hate to say it but I can't see him coming to us. Clubs agreed a fee weeks ago so we must have talked to the lad and yet he's still undecided. I guess he wants a bigger club or more money, step in QPR to offer him loads of money. As for Dawson over Caulker; Dawson's best days are behind him, he's 30, so Caulker is a much better option.

Could be that all our signings will be done on the same day, The deals have all been agreed and we shall be having just one press conference saving money on sandwiches.

If we offered him 62k a year everyone else would want that money, which could cause resentment in the dressing room and our team spirit was a major factor to us staying up last year.

So our transfer policy is to identify players that we want and then offer them either less than they already earn or less than other competing clubs will pay them.

No our policy is to ensure the survival of our club first and not end up going under or doing a Pompey !!

I hate comments like this because it makes it sound like bringing in good players and killing the club are synonymous which, of course, isn't true. As January proved, you can make top-notch signings without in any way harming the long-term interests of the club; quite the opposite in fact.

So the reality is that our policy is both of the above: to identify and sign capable players, paying them market value in the process but doing so in a way that is economically sustainable. If we are well managed -- as we have been so far by the present owners -- there is no reason we should not continue to have our cake and eat it. This should end flippant and incorrect responses to posts about transfer activity.

I agree with both posts. I watch Leicester a lot because of family and when Sven came in he brought ppl on massive wages and despite the quality, the huge imbalance was clear to see. You can't have players on 20,000-25,000 a week and then others on 60,000. Dosent work unless your maybe at one of the top clubs. Nigel Pearson came in and got rid of their high earners and they won the league comfortably.

We all know caulker is holding out for a bigger club, as we all would. He has probably been told by his agent that if Liverpool fail to get their target then he is in the frame. We have a few offers accepted but players are reluctant to come to us and feel they can get better deals. Dosent always work out tho, just ask Darren Bent.

Yep, lucid post and good thinking (which means you won't last long around here.) I suspect you are bang on about Caulker. Our deal is on the table and when he reaches a point where he is satisfied there are no more glamorous alternatives available to him, he'll quickly sign up. I'm not remotely worried about QPR. If we lose him, it'll be to someone much bigger than that (unless he's just plain stupid.)
