Interesting turn this thread has taken. I did wonder to myself the other day at what point a racial stereotype or perception becomes a valid statistic.

At what point do we say actually there might be an issue, whether or not there may be a root cause unrelated to race.

The fundemental obstacle here is that you'll immediately cause conflict in singling out a particular group in any attemps to tackle the problem. And the additional obstacle being external meddlers' reaction that you're daring to do such a thing.

I did hear one figure recently that 90% of one nationality over here work while 90% of another don't, (both from the same continent, not the original or extended Shengen Area) I mean you can't even say it without raising eyebrows.

Untrue. The daily fail article to which this story relates that 'police intelligence' 'suggests' that 'up to' 90%. Even given that it is from a paper so full of nonsense it is a highly qualified statement that has not been issued by the police.

I don't think its really productive to bandy statements as facts, without some supporting evidence. Its not like the internet isn't capable of providing data.

Sorry got it wrong - 92% rather than 90%

Source was DCI Paul Barnard, head of the Dedicated Cheque and Plastic Crime Unit (DCPCU) – a police unit run in partnership with banks and financial services companies. DCI Barnard told ITV1’s ‘Fraud Squad’ programme that:
