The Beatles
The Kinks
The Eagles
The Beautiful South
Dire Straits.

So southern California has become part of Britain? Must've missed that one!

The eagles-- byrds wannabees

Listening to their Fifth Dimension album at this moment. Pure Brilliance!
Got the boxset for Christmas (only bout £10-15), so many top albums in it. Always liked the greatest hits but was a bit nervous bout trying the albums but glad I did.

I've been listening to Sweetheart of the Rodeo quite a bit lately. Love the track Life in Prison.

If you like the Byrds, get No Other by Gene Clark

And the Flying Burrito Brothers
And Dillard & Clark

Flipping heck, even a British bands thread goes 'off piste' on the hol.
Someone should start an Americana / Alt country thread...

Yeah, off piste! But if you want to nominate someone on a par with McGuinn, Gram Parsons and the fantastic Gene Clark, how about Mike Nesmith (late of the Monkees)and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Both innovators and worth investigating. Try Nesmith's "Pretty Much Your Standard Ranch Stash" and NGDB " Uncle Charley and His Dog Teddy"; both classics, very country, less rock.

Should this be in the over rated thread?

Stones and Beatles might have mitigating factors (i.e. they helped change the world), but the others? Especially Queen and Oasis, who gives a monkeys?
