It's going to cost my Mrs about £2K a year on her retirement income and for a lot of her younger colleagues, a hell of a lot more. They didn't strike, but many will move elsewhere to achieve better working conditions/pay/benefits.

Its a bank, you'd think someone there would understand accountancy. What galls me is the incompetence in offering unsustainable contracted offers, that are then withdrawn because the first party can't afford it. Especially given the profits and bonuses that the good times brought those industries. They failed in their commitment and responsibility to deliver on their side of the agreement. You'd think financial companies would understand profit and loss, assets and liabilities. People should be angry. Even if the changes have to be made. Firstly I agree whole heartedly with Johnny and yourself, and would like to add, that the terms of my employment with HM Government including pensions allowances and general working conditions, have been systamatically eroded over the last 13 years to the point where many people at my level have had enough and jacked it in.

The changes to the pension alone, if tried in civvie street would be against the law ( I suspect ) but we dont strike, we have no union, we don't moan (well not much and only to each other ).

And yet some sport direct clad oxygen thief with 10 kids gets his benefit capped to 24,000 a year for sitting on his arse smoking weed and watching Jeremy Kyle ( the one he/she stared in) and thinks it's OK to vandalise war memorials, and be a genereal pain in the arse.

Don't comment if you don't understand how pension schemes work. Final Salary pension schemes were designed in the 1930's when life expectancy was a lot lower than now. It's not an accountancy cock up, but a situation where liabilities have spiralled as people are living beyond actuarial forecasts made many years ago. The private sector has realised this and acted accordingly.... the public sector has yet to accept this fact and Unions are still fighting the inevitable which is costing tax payers Billions.
