I don't know. Could it be that when we have Bolasie and Zaha on either wing and in good form we are pretty much unplayable. However, while Bolasie was injured our only PL quality winger was pretty much playing our game single-handed; as a consequence Zaha could be singled out to neutralise us and thus became the most fouled player in the division. Meanwhile, the team plummeted down the table.

Besides, Townsend is probably better than both Zaha and Bolasie. Perhaps not in terms of excitement and flash; but certainly in terms of end product.

Agreed

Would be perfect for us - He could effectively play as a winger, or as a Puncheon style attacking midfielder.

Time to make some summer signings and this would be a very good start and show,at last, some serious intent to strengthen the squad.

If there is genuine interest do you not think the players agent will have been sounded out about his present and expected wages?

We are hardly going to go after him then offer a totally unrealistic wage.

We have been in the top flight for three years and I reckon the Directors have a grasp on how to go about their business at this level by now.

Did you not understand what I wrote, here it is again "Palace can activate the release-clause, but it does not mean a thing if the player can't agree terms, or simply does not want to come to the club, as in all transfers "the player has the final say" not the clubs or his agent. that's quite simple really. If the player does not want to come to Palace he won't it does not matter what either club says or his agent, the final choice is his, same as Loic Remi last year when he said he was not coming to Palace or anywhere else he was staying with Chelsea that is what he did, seem to remember Clyne doing the same to Wolves in 2010.

Also there are a multitude of reasons players and clubs do not agree terms, "wages" is just one.

Yes, everyone understands how a transfer works - James' point, which is a valid one, is that if we are genuinely pursuing Townsend, we will have an idea of what wages he will be expecting, and we wouldn't continue with the interest if there was a huge disconnect between what Townsend is expecting and what we're prepared to pay.

On top of that, I see little reason he would turn down the move given that he presumably negotiated a relegation release clause into his contract - he's obviously keen to remain a Premiership player.

The tendency these days is to play left footers on the right and right footers on the left. Both our wingers are right footed so one of them will be cutting inside on their weaker foot. Townsend is left footed so will balance things up nicely

We need another winger, we are simply toothless when WIlf or Bolasie are tired or have to be subbed. Having a fresh Townsend or Zaha to bring on will give us more confidence in the final stages of matches, certainly more than with Sako or Gayle.

Would love to see this happen, but suspect if it does it won't be til late in the window. Townsend may well believe he can get a move to a better, more highly rated club- the likes of Southampton or Stoke, for example. If those options disappear or don't pan out he's more likely to consider us. We need to be bigging ourselves up as much as we can to try and get the deal done.

Would be a quality asset if he signs.

Townsend on the left, Zaha right, Wickham up front & Yala as a 10 would terrify many defences.

I've seen Townsend play left, right & up the middle so he could interchange in any of those positions comfortably.

I understand from a mate with connections at Spurs that he still has his house in Chigwell as a main residence so we'd be a better commute for him

Would be very happy if he signed.

Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five!
