Actually I recall Steve Parish confirming that Dougie Freedman wanted Vardy, but Leicester were willing to pay £1m and Palace weren't.

We should have then. A goal scoring striker at Palace is rare these days, and it's costing us. I hope it doesn't cost us next season.

Vardy was hardly an overnight success at Leicester. He's had to work hard and they play to his strengths. We paid far more for Dwight Gayle and then tried to convert him into a target man ! I'm not his biggest fan, but I don't think he's ever been utilised properly.

I'd like to see what he and Wickham can do in a 442. Gayle looked effective when he ( briefly ) had Murray up top with him.

Easy to say in hindsight, £1m for someone who'd never played above the fifth tier is a hell of a lot of money.

But the point I made above was that goal scoring strikers are rare anywhere - teams with comparable budgets to ours very very rarely find a 10 goal a season striker, let alone 15 or 20 - so this idea that this is a 'Palace problem' and we're the only club who struggle with this is nonsense.

Well it's a big market place and I seriously can not believe that there isn't someone out there who isn't able to place the ball between two sticks and a cross bar and actually display some skill. To me these days we're to ready to call or classify people as strikers when they're clearly not. The scouting network and how we coach players has to be called into question.
I have connections to the north west and saw Fleetwood once when they were going for promotion into the league. Although not the finished article there was clearly something about Vardy, and no, I'm not just saying that. My friend is a PNE fan and he was raving about after he'd seen him twice for Fleetwood.. How can normal fans see the potential and so called pro's can't? Because if we had we'd have invested in someone who is clearly a very good striker. I can't see anyone arriving soon whose going to change things, although would love to be proved wrong.

So explain why more than half the teams in the division can't solve the problem? Surely it's very clear to see that you're over-simplifying things?

And again I'll say, this is clearly not an issue unique to Palace, so this talk of our scouting and coaching being the problem doesn't really add up. Premier League goalscorers are very very hard to find, particularly within the financial constraints clubs like ours have to operate.

Of course there was something about Vardy, that's not a revelation. There was a host of Championship clubs after him, Leicester offered the most, so that's where he went.

There are strikers in the lower divisions who have attracted attention. For example :

Lee Gregory (Millwall), Tom Bradshaw (Walsall), Lasse Vibe (Brentford), Kemar Roofe (Oxford Utd), AJ Leitch-Smith (Port Vale), Jonathan Kodjia (Bristol C), Lyle Taylor (AFC Wimbledon), Ademola Lookman (Charlton, Matty Taylor (Bristol R) etc etc.

It'll be fine, I'm sure the club are just waiting to unleash Keshi Anderson and Kwesi Appiah next season!

Judging by some of the additions I beg to differ.

prem striking is all timing and chemistry. when our wingers head to the corner flags we lose the goal moments.

It does seem if you are critical of the club someone is ready to take offence. By saying that recruitment isn't good I believe that to be a genuine point. Ok, Cabaye, Wickham and Souare for me are good additions to the squad. However, for those players there is also Mcarthy, Mutch, Sako, Lee, Adebayor and Bamford (both loan), and last seasons loanees Sanogo and Ameobi. There are more of course but I think you can catch my drift. Some of those are championship players at best. I'm all for Pardew being given the chance to spend some money and build a team. No doubt he should be able to lead us into next season, but he needs to up his game, and the clubs ambitions when it comes to signings needs to improve.

Just so it doesn't offend anyone, this is merely an opinion, copyrighted to me.
