You're absolutely correct but for every patriot there's a self loathing Brit who relishes every erosion of what we deem British. I really wish I'd delved deeper in to the psyche of the last bloke I encountered who held such views. Are we to bear the perpetual guilt of the Germans? I think OP is justified in raising the point of 'white 'middle class liberal bellends' who undoubtedly were the 2nd largest group of voters, although their agenda would have been more anti-Conservative than anything else.

I wouldn't vote for him, ever, but one can definitely make a case that he's not trying to appeal to everyone or focused on PR and spin. Also, he does kind of represent at least one stereotype of republican politics. What disturbs me more is how Republicans who were venomous and attacking him, in the last year, are now lining up behind him. That's how f**ked democracy is in the US. Its better to vote for someone you hate, than the other side win.

So all the faux outrage aside, has anyone actually got anything to say about the spat between Khan and Trump? Anybody? Without the 'I'm friends with thousands of Muslims' and the smart @rsed 'Do you know who the mayor of Croydon is?' I mean come on, I've brought up a genuine subject and all we get here is the usual Alf Garnett wise cracks and the pretend anger of me bringing up the fact that he's got links to extremism, and the usual twisting of what I've said (someone claiming I have a problem with him just because he's a Muslim). I thought as sensible Palace fans we could actually talk about this without acting like little children! I don't care if he's from South London or if you've shared a platform with Muslims, I'm asking what you think about Trump Vs Khan!

We probably have the fairest electoral system anywhere but let's make no mistake. The electing of a Muslim mayor of pakistani heritage is a portent for the future. London is heavily populated by Asians and they will hold the political balance in the future. That is not a prospect I like the sound of. It holds no advantage for me or many like me. It just means that the left will cosy up to ethnic minorities more and more and all the religious and cultural issues that go with it. We already have the Anti Semitic issue and the Quesir Mahmood and Lutfur Rahman alleged fraud plus other examples.
