Well said Painter, very sensible post. I for one do not want to see our beloved club in financial ruin again.

Our biggest transfer to date is about £13m, I see why we are cautious it's a lot of money, with no guarantee.

It's a difficult call, remember how Goldberg got ripped off by bigger clubs, the board are making sure that doesn't happen again.

The club is bigger than any player, look at Leeds, Charlton, Bolton, Bradford etc all got broken by greedy agents and players.

Have faith in the board and we will have a club worth supporting in years to come.

Glory hunters need to look for another club or need to be realistic.

POST OF THE YEAR !!!!!

Mane has picked up an injury so that could have some bearing on us being able to conclude the transfer anytime soon

Disagree 100% different time when those past dealings took place and the other clubs knew that guy didn't know what he was doing throwing money around and 30mil for a quality striker is not a risk.

Those other clubs worked by shady dealings Leeds is a prime example.

No risk of the club going under like before we have backing now from owners that are worth billions yes they are not going to just throw money at the club which is a very good thing but it offers a saftey net also we are making a lot of money the spend of the club is not very high so all the prize/tv money we have received should easily cover buying a few players even around 30mil mark.

Sums it all up, I don't want to see this club anywhere near the depths of admin again & all for the greed of ONE player.

Most will know better than I, the FFP rules
have to be observed and I have no idea where we
stand with that.

The sentiments in the post in relation to our
past and fairly recent history however in terms
of whether we even have a club to follow or
not, are very relevant and that is why quite a
few of us will side with caution, whether that's
wrong or right who cares. What I care about is
that we are still here in ten years time, in
whatever division..

You're right of course. But the TV money has changed the transfer market. If we look around us some equivalent clubs are spending significant sums on strengthening their squads to improve their prospects. If we invest wisely we could be middle third or better. If we don't we're going to have to get used to bottom third and accept the risk of relegation.

Here's another stat to put the Benteke deal in context:-

After the Pogba deal, somebody posted the following (presumably a Utd fan to justify the Pogba fee):-

Man Utd spending £89m on Pogba is the equivalent of Crystal Palace spending £15m on a player (as a percentage of turnover).

Inverting this fact, splashing £30m on Benteke would be the equivalent (in turnover terms) of Utd spending £188m on a player...

Doesn't sound so cheap now does it? Even Spurs picked up Jansson for less than £15m. I'm sure we must be able to find somebody in Europe who is better VFM.
