You could remove every Muslim from the UK, I suspect it would have zero impact on your families fear of safety; society needs fear to sell and control. Fear of Muslims, Fear of Communists, Fear of Crime, Fear of the Bomb etc - The reality is, there isn't much reason to fear walking the streets, if you know the area. Granted there are parts of town I wouldn't walk at night, or on a Friday after chucking out time. But it ain't Muslims with a bomb or gun or sharp stick that make me feel cautious in those areas.

The proxy wars between the Soviet, Sino and Western Capitalism were broad, defining and caused carnage on a pretty broad scale, across most continents. Its just not considered WWIII for PR reasons. But make no mistake, all three factions considered the other an existential threat to be defeated and destroyed. The War on Terror is probably beginning to eclipse the War on Drugs now.

You might not, but I can see a world of difference between this situation and the fear of being run over,killed in a plane crash, worrying about global warming or if your arse looks big in the mirror.
