Most England players are used to owning the ref

just a theory

But I think most England players are from clubs where they can count on the referee being on their side.

They're not used to playing 11 against 12.

Should be pick a team of players from clubs that Mark Clattenberg wouldn't give a free kick to?

I totally agree. Yesterday watching the match I was thinking how sick I am of watching players from the "big clubs" constantly talking to the ref when Palace play them. And they do the same when they play for England. They should put their efforts into pressing like Slovenia did.

I remember when Gary Neville gave away a last minute penalty against Rumania

He put in a tackle which, I reckon, he'd have got away with if playing for Man United.

I don't blame him. It's an instinctive, split second decision based on habit and experience.

Athletes call this Muscle Memory

Premier League Ref botherers would call this Hustle Memory. (They automatically assume that Mike Riley, or Graham Poll or Mark Clattenberg will have been brow beaten into giving everything their way)

This is a dangerous assumption to make when you play for England.

England would be better off with a team of players that are used to assuming that the ref is against them.

Not trying to be an arse but it was his less talented brother Phil that gave the penalty away. Those were the days when we tried everyone at left back!

Thanks Monty

I think the same principle allies though. Philip Neville started at Moan United
