Off to Madrid this weekend with the missus, staying in Calle Marqués de Villamagna in the Salamanca area.

Want some recommendations for a tip top Italian and a Steakhouse, also for a few things to do during the day?

Obviously tour of the Santiago Bernabéu and I guess she'll wanna do some shopping but we're only there for a few days so anything we'll regret missing?

Missus isn't a fan Kermit, went Barcelona with the boys earlier this year and I loved it but she didn't enjoy it much in Marbella last Summer, shame cos I feel a fool asking for Italian places in the Spanish capital!

Madrid is better than Barcelona, in my humble opinion. You are less likely to be robbed, stabbed or have prossers cry when you turn them down and then get robbed and stabbed by their pimps.

Suggest you try the following:

Awesome restaurant close to Gran Via Metro;

[Link]

El Rastro is worth a visit;

Santa Ana is a Greta place to enjoy a weekend evening:

Thanks for the recommendations matt_himself! I too am heading to Madrid to visit a Spanish "mate" " who has 'friend zoned' me, but am hoping this visiting action will sway things and she will see the light.

Any romantic stuff to do in Madrid anyone could recommend at all please?

Ps-yes am a mug to book a flight just to see her over a weekend - I should stay longer. But she has new work starting on Monday, and I don't wanna outstay my welcome.

A cocktail or two at the ME hotel will have her dripping like a f***ed fridge.

If you have desire to exhibit an arty, worldly side, then may I suggest you take her to the Sofia Reina gallery and make observations on Guernica based upon a 5 second Google search.

Failing that, go to Kapital, buy her ten p***.tar Martini's and lie about your income.

What could be more romantic?

One final point, I was told at secondary school that all Spanish women have VD. In the three odd decades since I left school, I have no reason to doubt this, even though the bloke who told me this also told me he was banging the brunette in the Reynolds Girls and produce no evidence to back this up. Therefore would urge you to rubber up should matters progress.

Madrid is a fantastic city and the Reina Sofia is definitely worth a visit. Pay to go on a Sunday morning when it is relatively quiet or if on a budget go on Sunday afternoon when it is free (but packed).

Remember that most restaurants will only just be opening at 8/9PM with people eating about 10PM. Have a late lunch!

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

This is my top restaurant in Madrid if you want steakhouse or geunine American burguer style.

Alfredo´s Barbacoa in Calle Lagasca or Calle Conde de Aranda are good options for you if you will stay in Salamanca Neighbour Area.
I recommend you a Super Alfredo´s Burger

Wow....she just mentioned that these are the posh areas of Madrid! Thanks Jorge! Think she sounds impressed!...Need to save up to take her out there....I have cancelled going this weekend - but am definitely planning to meet her in Madrid soon. I haven't even FaceTimed her yet - just watsapp...I feel if I can get to that level, then I should visit her...otherwise it's a lot of money to go to Madrid just for a weekend.

Will check out that Reina Sofia thing definitely...bit of art is always a good thing. Are there an skate parks around Madrid at all? Or good ice skating rinks? I met her on a Surf trip and she likes the same activities like I do - so any skateboarding areas would be awesome....but I spose I gotta look at the romantic side of things also by taking her to these food places - she loves her food - she ain't fat - she's just European - the Spanish love their cuisine, which is a beautiful thing - I could learn a thing or two, instead of wafting down a quick fish and chips,lol.

There is a fine line for what you are planning to do. Going abroad to meet her may make her think that you are a 'special friend'. This is the worst male-female dynamic for a 'bone fide' chap to be involved in.

This means she will expect long meals, involving chocolate desserts and rose, followed by long chats on a bridge over looking a river exchanging your dreams, secrets and desires, followed by you sleeping together in the same bed with your pants on but just sleeping.

She will believe you have a life long connection and will not view you as a sexual threat at all.

This situation has to be avoided as it will be costly, frustrating and it may get insinuated, as a result, around social media that you 'know what is in your flowerbeds', which if you are not that way inclined, will kill your chances of you getting any muff for a long time.

Therefore make an informed decision as to whether you think the above will happen and if you even think there is a 30% chance of such an occurrence, suggest you invest your hard earned in a visit to Inferno or Agenda, where if you buy a bottle of Moët or two, you are pretty much guaranteed to get your nob wet. Might not be the most romantic of exchanges but it will count.

I have no option other than to heartily concur with this sage advice. Letting a woman take the lead, be it emotionally or physically, is emphatically not part of a gentleman's ultimate kit, nor a recipe for anything but disappointment.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham
