Hyperbole... The concentration camps were well known to the German people, as were the Ghettos. The death camps less so, but to say people weren't aware isn't true either. They didn't want to know, because they didn't want to believe.

What did they really think was happening in the concentration camps? They knew something terrible was going on, they just didn't realise how terrible it was.

What worries me, is that everyone seems to forget it wasn't just the Jews that were being murdered on mass.

As for Stalin, f**k him, and Lenin and Trotsky, they saw human life as an expendable asset to be used up, and that doing so was fine, provided it served their purposes. Stalin wasn't even killing dissenters, just people who caught his attention. The bloke was a f**king Monster.

So how many political dissenters did Castro murder, who hadn't actually committed real crimes? No one seems sure, and the numbers vary dramatically because there is no real consensus on whether they were innocent or guilty. There are plenty of those killed following the revolution and the bay of pigs that were a long way from innocent.

But the state also criminally treated homosexuals and black Cubans, along with never moving on from that 'cold war paranoia'. Then again of course the US were quite prolific in their attempts to murder Castro, and to support any anti-Cuban terrorists.

Definitely some, and for that Castro can never really be as Corbyn puts it a hero (and politics doesn't produce heroes anyway it produces selfish c**ts of people).

Well you rather disagreed with me and then agreed.
Remember we are talking about this with hindsight and yes, I'm sure people's thoughts about what they knew or heard rumour of was filtered through nationalism or their own sense of what they believed could be true.
We will never know for sure of course, but I reckon a lot of people in Britain and Germany were either shocked to learn of the nature and scale of the holocaust or had their deepest suspicions or fears confirmed. My wider point was that the holocaust seems to have a special place in history and politics. The exposure it has had, which has been in no small part due to Jewish immigrants in the American media. I don't think this is by any means a bad thing, as every generation needs to see it for themselves, but there are many other dark areas of human history that deserve a visit as well.
As for Castro. Being ruler of Cuba could not have been an easy gig, much the same as Iraq was for Saddam Hussein. I have no time for either of them but their deaths also brought me no pleasure at all, especially Saddam. I doubt the same can be said for the victims of their regimes.

Lordy - you are not one of them Jewish media conspiracy theorists as well, are you?

You are ticking off way too many boxes in the 'Are You of the Far Right?' survey at this moment.

Don't tell me, there are a disproportionate amount of Jewish people who run the news/Hollywood.

Yes, and....?

Are you saying that I am wrong? Or are you too busy indulging in your own everyone's a fascist fantasy?

I'm beginning to think that he sleeps with a gun under his pillow just in case the Gestapo come calling.

Where he lives, with the 1.2% ethnic minority population, that is a distinct possibility.

You can't but help think that the lad is compensating for something on here.

You are deffo bonkers IMHO but deffo not a racist....but then again you don't invariably reduce threads to a discussion about immigration or people of a differing ethnicity to you...

Here's a question: Would you rather be led by Donald Trump or Fidel Castro?

Trump, there is 1) a likely 4 year limit b) an entire apparatus of state to counter the whims of the president c) laws applicable to the state and constitution that limit the scope of power.

If we were talking in terms of absolute power in the hands of one person. Castro, he's dead. As such his capacity is somewhat limited. Probably even if both were alive, I think in terms of a dictatorship Castro would likely be a better bet (for me) than Trump.

Hahaha... that line becomes hilarious if you imagine Jimmy Hill delivering it on MOTD.

Priceless matty lad!
