Watching the one show and the cup draw.

So when you have a 10 year old Lincoln fan saying he wants one of the big teams away in the next round because of the money, then you know football is f***ed.

He is only projecting the feelings of the adults he lives with no doubt. Personally I would want the easiest tie possible to give the best chance of progressing to the next round.

Bit harsh.... for a small team like Lincoln 50% of the gate money (after costs) from say a Chelsea/Spurs/Arsenal game at theirs would be a bigger payday than they probably take over 2 seasons of league matches.

For some of these lower and non-league clubs that can be the difference between survival and bankruptcy

Correct answer.

That has always been the beauty of the Cup, that the smaller club normally non league can draw Man U away and make enough money to keep that club functioning for years.

Big club away, is the pay day for low league and non-league clubs. They'll sell out their ticket allocation which will be bigger than their typical home crowds, plus have a reasonable chance of getting on TV (and earning rights). It also can gear up a lot of lapsed fans back to the games again.

And to top it all off, a giant killing does wonders for your home crowds. Beat a top team, and you're on TV next round.

Everything ultimately is about money. Clubs need money to function.

I think it's rotten that the FA Cup has become all about money whilst the Premier League isn't at all.

no but the presence of money within the game and the importance of it to clubs as a business, is much more important and transparent.

FA Cup draws have always been about this.
