The BBC is deliberately being run down.

There are many things wrong with the BBC, for example, cronyism, right wing news bias, etc. but deserves support, to keep quality up, rather the current downwards spiral. For example sport for all.

I am afraid its value will only truly be recognised after it has gone, and you all have FOX News.

I preferred it when it was less obvious about its role as a government propaganda organ and when it was less obsessed with "news" from across the Atlantic.

Can’t even remember the last time I saw a copy of the Express, some years ago I think. Strange how it is the left who always spring to the defence of the liberal-left BBC, I wonder why that is. World Service a ‘national treasure’, LOL. If this institution is so wonderful, why does it have to be funded by the public (many of whom disagree with the constant liberal-left lines that it takes). Surely, if it is so great, it would succeed as a business.
Now I'll get ready for the usual abuse, I'm brainless, a fascist, I read the wrong newspapers, don't appreciate the, music on Radio 6 (I'll plead guilty to that one)' ...

The BBC website seems, to me at least, to be a tad patronising. News and other items seem to be written in such a way as to be aimed at 12 year olds. Similarly, the TV news reporting comes across as rather more superficial than I remember it some years ago. I guess they don't know who or what their demographic is.

In terms of light entertainment, it really has gone down the sh*tter. Mrs Brown's Boys, Miranda Hart, Josh Widdicombe, Russell Howard, Bake Off, EastEnders, Strictly and all the other bland bollocks - all of it anodyne, cheap crap designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

BUT

We have BBC4, almost all its radio output, documentaries, natural history, (some) high quality drama, University Challenge and Only Connect.

In summary, although the news and politics coverage is rather bland and unchallenging (and perhaps not as subjective as it once had a reputation for being) and the light entertainment is embarrassing or just piss-poor, as a public service broadcaster and for what it manages to achieve, it does a remarkable job. As Kermie rightly pointed out, compare it with the quality of tv and radio in other countries and it really is something special and is, indeed, almost globally envied.

It amazes me that people have no idea what an asset the BBC is. When those with an agenda finally kill it off you will only have yourselves to blame. If in any doubt, just look at the US. When the BBC goes the only channel that will be reasonably independent will be Al Jazeera.
