MacKenzie has transcended the 'freedom of speech get out of jail card' for too many years now. He is an insult to responsible journalism and needs to be sacked. Can't understand why other Premiership football clubs don't demonstrate empathy and follow the example of Liverpool and Everton. What football community, when it comes to ethics?

Where to begin?

Is it or is it not the case that historically images of gorillas, and thrown bananas, were one of the nastier racial attacks in football and worryingly regular. Someone of Mackenzie's generation would know this in a highly ingrained way. Using a gorilla was always massively insensitive, not checking whether there could also be racial overtones in this specific case negligent in the extreme.

And picking on a player in Liverpool this week of all weeks when you are the Sun. It simply can't be a coincidence, trying to get in their revenge in an underhand way I suspect. Either that or again unbelievably stupid.

Either way the stupidity has to be called out. People from Liverpool are no different from anyone else in the UK so why do some on this site seem to think they deserve what they get?

Oh and by the way, having read a small number of his articles, Mackenzie is one of the most odious people I have ever come across.

Regardless of what he knew or didn't know, he hasn't called him a gorilla has he.
My objection to the piece is that unlike most animals, the gorilla is the one animal who when I have looked into it's eyes at the zoo they seems to looking back and sizing me up in return. In a daft anthropomorphism, I have imagined that they are thinking that if there wasn't glass between us they could rip my arms off before I could say Kong Island. His assertion about gorillas is therefore wrong in my view.
Equally, pandering to the over sensitive and mischief maker is also wrong in my view. Your opinion about Mackenzie is irreverent as regards an accusation of racism.

A Google image search still shows that The Sun created a composite image of Barkley next to a gorilla.

Mackenzie said this:

"Perhaps unfairly, I have always judged Ross Barkley as one of our dimmest footballers. There is something about the lack of reflection in his eyes which makes me certain not only are the lights not on, there is definitely nobody at home. I get a similar feeling when seeing a gorilla at the zoo. The physique is magnificent but it’s the eyes that tell the story."

Hmm, didn't know I had to treat him with any reverence. Can't say he has the gravitas of our local vicar. The guy is a journalist so of course everything he writes is specifically planned to create his desired outcome. They are very good at that which is how they get to do it for a living.

This is a lot of saddos jumping on anything they can find to make a 'racism' story.
The Sun's capitulation to this is equally pathetic.

The "easily offended" have gone into full mouth foaming outraged knicker wetting mode over this.

It's in a highly read national linen. You keep repeating stuff enough (whether it is true or not), it almost becomes accepted fact among the hard of thinking. (I bet loads of people don't actually really know why they hate Harriet Harman)

Do you think Mckenzie should be allowed to carry on writing that bile?

You don't. That word was meant to be 'irrelevant'.

I must hold up my hands and say I never read The Sun so his history as a 'journalist' is unknown to me.
What I can say is that this is a non story.

I know ..she tried to get the publication of child p***.graghy protected unless they could prove the child suffered..she thought pie was a good idea, and she also said father's don't necessarily have to be involved with Their children ( twice denying father's for justice a meeting).
And also tried to move the goalposts on MPs expenses....anything else ...

More importantly do people actually dip their hand in their pocket still, and spend 35p on a newspaper (or whatever they cost) I can honestly say I haven't bought a newspaper in 10 years.

Mackenzie wrote the article, he doesn't work for The Sun's art desk who are in charge of page layout and selecting which photos to print. You're ire should be directed at them, if anyone.

Let's be clear, I share in the common opinion that the bloke is a complete c*** and I think it's a hugely mean-spirited article that needlessly picks on Barkley and fails miserably in any attempt to be humourous.

However, it still isn't racist and I actually think that the leap that has been made to imply racism is as pathetic and misguided as the article itself.

I think as a person Mackenzie comes across as mean spirited and unnecessarily vindictive.

However this whole incident is completely stupid and it is just the manifestation of how stupid and politically correct society is now.

The whole thing is completely the fault of left wing activism.

Apparently an arsehole isn't allowed to make a living now.....Some of them should sack themselves.

Fecking 'salem witch trials' every other week.

So an article that denigrated a whole city, written by someone on the anniversary of writing complete lies about inhabitants of that city's responsibility for 96 deaths is fine in your eyes?
The Barclays gorilla racist thing is pushing it if KM didn't know.
