I know being from the 'progressive' section of the left you find those two concepts difficult to separate.

Doesn't mean a person HAS to be a xenophobe..just that regrettably many in this day and age are..

So the Scots must be celebrating St Andrews day,the Irish for St Patrick's day,and the Welsh for St David's.
No one ever comments on these....funny that.

Exactly my point. The same type of people pushing for Eid to be recognised as a public holiday (they've already introduced a Islamic day here to placate the left) bend themselves out of shape to call it what it is St George's Day irrespective of whether you celebrate it or not.

Who said being proud of your country or celebrating a national day HAD to involve being xenophobic? Not me.

I just said that in England nowadays IMHO in many (not all by far) cases its does..

Australia (in my experience) is a good example of a place where generally people have passion for their country without xenophobia creeping in..

But that's OK because they are minorities. That excuses practically everything.
And despite the fact that without England and the USA most of the people who now call Britain home would probably be buried in a Nazi mass grave, we are the bad guys.

Without the Polish and Czech fighter pilots in 1940,we might be buried in a Nazi mass grave...something those with antipathy to Poles coming here might want to remember..

I like the Poles. They work hard, share common interests, and don't try to kill us.

I would imagine most countries would exhibit this trait? Including many Involved in yesterday's march along Madison Avenue celebrating Punjabi Day. So to single out the English is being IMO disingenuous ..
