Yeah, Orbison has a great voice but comparing the two is missing the point. They were both very enjoyable singers with different voices. Roy never had the charisma but he did have the range.

Well both Elvis and Roy had career ups and downs; they both fell from the limelight from time to time. Roy from about '65 to a late career revival in the 80s with some stellar companions. Elvis has a very lean period between '64 and '68 and again from about 72 until his death. I don't agree that "Elvis had it all", he wasn't a musician or songwriter, yes he was a charismatic performer in the early days but after the comeback in '68 he gradually became a shambling wreck of a human being, so much more a tragedy given his earlier physical appeal.

Well, Elvis was a musician, you should really know that, but no not a songwriter. When I said he had it all I was talking about voice, statue, looks, personality, sex appeal and front man ability. The minute most people saw him they recognised genuine x-factor times ten. Orbison isn't still making 55 million dollars a year (2015) like Elvis. Old Roy was good, but he was on a different level to Elvis on most of those attributes in the first paragraph. Orbison had a great voice and is responsible for co-writing some rock n roll classics...it's not exactly criticism.

Outside of singing I don't think Elvis was a 'great musical talent' no....But it's very harsh not to consider Elvis a musician. Elvis was fine on the guitar and played it most of his life. He also played the piano too. Sure he wasn't the best but most aren't. Also Elvis played on some of his early recordings between 56 and 58. Some of that was 'credited' just to get the extra cash but other musicians confirm he wasn't bad and there is very strong evidence he played on recordings such as 'Baby I Don’t Care'. Elvis used the guitar less as the sixties went on. As for how the money is made....? People go to Elvis's birthday because it's Elvis....The fact remains that he makes far more than Roy for his estate.
