Or you could be Ryan Giggs... who got the assistant managers job at Man U straight out of the box, followed by caretaker manager of Man U, followed by national team head coach!

And he ticks the BAME box too funnily enough. He is mixed race.

Yet, I'm an American and a New Yorker. It makes perfect sense to me both grammatically and contextually. All that means is George Bernard Shaw was right.

The Rooney Rule was devised by Americans for use in American society. Britain's ethnic/racial history is very different from the USA's, where discrimination based on race was enshrined in the written Constitution and had to amended out. Therefore, the implementation of a rule that seeks to bring BAME/Caribbean heritage/Asian/Indigenous people into any industry must be tailored to suit the society and industry it is meant to affect. To merely say that an organisation must interview at least one BAME/Caribbean/Asian heritage/Indigenous person per vacated position is merely eyewash. What is needed, both here in the USA and in the UK, is a holistic approach that incorporates training/education along with employment opportunities. Where is the push to recruit "minorities" into upper level coaching programs? How many BAME/Caribbean heritage/Asian/Indigenous people hold such qualifications? The "Rooney Rule" is merely a band-aid that masks a far larger issue. Once again, Sweet Fanny Adams underwhelms.

I could care less is not the same as I couldn't care less, it's grammatically incorrect for what your sentiment was. Even if your country does it on a wholesale basis.

This is another one of those stupid policies it should be about who is best for the role nothing to do with race or colour.

No one is being held back by the current system

The fact that it wouldn't fix the entire problem isn't a good enough reason to not do it at all IMO.

 


Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time.

The problem is the FA really doesn't care, they just want to say they're doing something. If there was any real intent there would be much more than a promise to interview one BAME etc. per vacancy.

It might make sense to you, it doesn't make grammatical sense at all though. And nothing about it is perfect.
