England team for tonight:

Butland
Walker
Stones
Tarkowski
Dier
Trippier
Oxlade-Chamberlain
Lingard
Young
Vardy
Sterling

I can't say I'm enthused with the sheer quality of this team.

Mind you I have hardly heard of most of the Italians:

Donnarumma
Zappacosta
Rugani
Bonucci
De Sciglio
Pellegrini
Frello Filho
Parolo
Candreva
Immobile
Insigne

Can any of the more informed watchers of Italian football offer any insights?

Will we actually score or have to watch a long drawn out 0-0?

Gosh, a real derth of quality there.

What's our best team, if everyone's fit? I think it's 442 diamond for me. A bit like the Tottenham model where Dier sits in and Rose/Walker push on?

GK: Pickford
RWB: Walker
CB: Stones
CB: Cahill
LWB: Rose
DM: Dier
CM: Wilshire
CM: Henderson
AM: Ali
ST: Sterling
ST: Kane

Stones worries me a bit. He's decent but gives the impression that he thinks he is better than he is. Maybe that's just the self-confidence that you need at this level.

You kidding Ferret? Tarkowski stands full on on his foot, as clear a pen as anything to me.

Not impressed with that VAR decision looked totally innocuous.

If you watched the game England were playing a 3 at the back.
Walker plays for Man City.
Gareth was trying him as one of the 3 Centre Backs.

Didn't see it, but amazed Tarkowski gets a nod over Tomkins. Zaha tore up Tarkovski, and if I'm not mistaken he has the most penalties called against him of any center back in the league (maybe that was last season).

As Johan said he trod on the Italians foot.
Penalty.

Not for me, no intention, Southgate glad it didn't happen in a World Cup game (yet).

I can see players 'learning' about the VAR and who is deciding what is 'clear' makes it subjective.

Still hoping for its ultimate success though, like the cricket system where its proven technology.

Yep no intention to foul but still took him out. It was a good decision to award a penalty. Well done VAR.

Not much has been said about the fact he was going down prior to his foot being stepped on without any contact after losing possession. Therefore, the scoring opportunity had already gone.

I'm not sure there was a clear and obvious error here so I'm not convinced it should have been reviewed in the first place.

It looked like more of a simple coming together of players.
