In budget would be a Mini Clubman - comfortable, economical and quirky. And is a bit of a pocket rocket. The wheelbase is slightly longer than the hatchback which makes it feel more 'adult'. Buy one with a chili pack and you'll have a great little car.

My last two cars have been Fiestas. Ok not particularly exciting but I've had no problems with them and parts are relatively cheap thanks to the millions of them that have been made.

i would either a) buy expensive from a reputable dealer for warranty etc. Or b) buy cheap from the previous owner - with id to verify their identity = that on the documentation. do not buy from the crow-men who are neither of the above. in terms of depreciation, the optimum age of vehicle is about 5 year old today. nationality of vehicle : korean is good, or Eastern European. buy green to ensure future tax or legislation does not crucify you. buy Petrol or hybrid. Relatively small engine. Euro 6 emissions compliant ( or failing that Euro 5 ). buy a French vehicle if you want to throw your money in the street, have a breakdown, crash, and be laughed at by mechanics.
