What a fabulous footballer he was, he was worth the ticket money when I went to Portman Road all those years ago . Sad. Parrot PS IPFC was my closest club in the 1970s so don't start

A truly great player who had a career cut short by injury, I think. He seems to have had a tough life off the pitch. Ipswich's best ever player I'd say, and they had some excellent ones.

That's a real shock, 64 is no age now. Very good player.

I do recall an incident where Kevin Beattie, in a more domestic moment, used some petrol to aid the ignition of a reluctant bonfire. It work rather too well and he ended up in hospital.

Only 9 England caps, which seems incredible for such a talented player in a period when England failed to qualify for two consecutive World Cups. He played and scored in the 5-1 drubbing of Scotland in the Home International Championship match of 1975, which must have been a sweet memory. (‘Our own’ Gerry Francis scored two).
Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes) |

Great to see Palace fans give great tributes to a deserved tour-de-force of the game. Fantastic ambassador of the game.
