My beer of the moment is Tsingtao

It's imported from China, most other branded beers and imitations

I love a Sapporo, Japanese I think. Nice but dear.

By way of a complete non-sequitur, Sapporo hosted the 1972 Winter Olympics

Yes I used to drink Bud as a 'Breakfast Beer' when I was drinking. I needed to skull about 6 to stop the DTs then I could handle the Liquor. Best canned beer for me at the time (especially cold) was McEwans Export Pale Ale

Try an imperial stout. Recommend Fullers. £7 a 500ml bottle. 10.7%.

Something that will show you how complex and full of flavour a really good beer can be.

Too much will screw you up though.

Cheers, I'll have a sniff after I've gone through these next eight.

Let me know what you think. The other end of the spectrum from a Budweiser. Not that you could do a night out on them. As i’ve got older i’ve found less can be more.

So today marks the start of an nine day series where I rate nine reasonably well known beers and ales.

Today kicks off the first but I'll play it safe and sample probably the most famous and internationally known aforementioned Budweiser......the tastes I got from this were fizzy, malty and hoppy....quite inoffensive.

A 7 out of 10.

Now here is a thread with a future.

Budweiser isn’t bad in the UK. Mortlake water is way better than its equivalent in the US

Similarly Indian Kingfisher when it was brewed by Shepherd and Neame was great and much better than its Indian parent. Less good now Heineken brews it

I agree Tsing Tao is very nice and good value. Also Estrella.

In Prague I drank draft Budweiser, a really top brew. In bottles Kozel was best. I also lived in a brew pub in Brno which was brilliant.

My favourites are bitter. Locally Westerham and Pilgrim (Reigate) are to die for.

Young’s was my favourite but it deteriorated, especially after Charles Wells got hold of it.

You can’t go wrong with London Pride or Spitfire. Harvey’s is an acquired taste but to me it’s gorgeous

Locally to you it has to be Batemans. Really excellent.

Further North Jennings, Timothy Taylor’s and Caledonian stand out.

To the West Hook Norton is oh so yummy and Wye Valley is brilliant.

So that’s tomorrow sorted out.

I say Singtao (silent T) others pronounce the T. Anyway it's a nice beer from what I remember from my drinking days.

Cobra of course is the go to in Indian Restaurants and Peroni for Italian.

Effes if you fancy a Turkish

Cobra was an English design. It has been brewed in a few places including Bangalore but it’s not really an Indian beer. It’s a great marketing exercise.

It's a mystery to me why you've never modelled Stirling

They are all brewed and bottled here. It wouldn’t pay to ship them in. Burton is one of the biggest plants in UK. it’s all a marketing ploy. Good game, water sugar glass and a bit of alcohol and we all pay £5+ a bottle. Nice.
