Agreed. Self preservation kicks in at times like this. As someone who worked as a carpenter for years in the construction industry you kind of sensed when something like this was going to happen. I'd have my tools in the back of my car and I'd be gone pronto.....

Ex carpenter, pro Israel. You're not really Jesus are you Jim?

A familiar tale of poor management, but paying themselves obscene bonuses. I read £47 million was syphoned off in bonuses for themselves. Which has ultimately led to the company going into liquidation, leaving the CAA, ATOL and the Government with a cost of £500m at least to bring TCs customers home. Nobody is held accountable as usual, they just swan off into the sunset.

Report that other travel companies doubling the cost of holidays from weekend prices, to take advantage of the situation. Sadly its no surprise, as greed prevails. Travel agents are very similar to Estate agents, very creative with the truth, very low moral compass and greedy.

What evidence do you have for travel agents being greedy? What percentage of the cost of a package holiday is taken as commission by the travel agent, and what percentage would you class as "reasonable" or "not greedy"?

The clue is in the wording - agent.

Useless middle men who don’t create, produce, mend or make anything.

It's not travel agents per se that are increasing costs but the airlines themselves.

Easyjet launched their Spring and Summer flight prices last Friday and when I checked the cost of three flights from Luton to Sardinia on Friday the cost was £950. On Monday by which time their big rival had ceased trading the cost had risen to £1,200

On the wireless that the dough owed to the hotels is around 300 million.
How was a 200 million bail out going to help.
It's ok for labour to spout about bailing but then what happens next week month year.
The banks on the other hand have been no where near the position they were in before the bail out.
Hence why that help has proved worthwhile.

Hays Travel have come to the rescue, s some good news after all.

Thos Cook had 1/7th of the market and sold plenty of holidays so its good to know that this market will still be catered for.

Agreed good news for the staff I have a friend who works at the Bromley branch so hopefully she will be OK.

This is a massive change for Hays I hope they are up to it, in the SE the high street travel agent has almost died out. They are sailing against the prevailing wind so I wish them luck but I do wonder if the high street travel agent is going the way of the high street estate agent I hope I am wrong.

I hope that they know what they are doing as it's a hell of a purchase for a company that only makes £10m profit in a dwindling market
