...do the prep for next season. Only a few games left. With so many players out of contract....is it time to ignore some of our older journeymen ? and see if our kids are ready to step up ? Or would you prefer to play our existing squad and push to finish as high up the table as possible ? Next season will be tough, isn't it always ? play the risky kids ? or play the safe men ?

Time to experiment. Our "best" aren't that likely to accrue many points anyway given our last games.
I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything. |

The U18s may still have something to play for depending on the Chelsea v Fulham result next week. If Fulham fail to win that game our lads have the small matter of a final against Citeh or Manure for the right to play on the U19 Euro equivalent of the Champions League next season, played on the same nights as the CL matches - an opportunity to play against the best youngsters in Europe. The U23s will be involved in the play-offs for promotion. Given the investment we've made in the Academy, these challenges might just take priority.

Not the way it works IMO. At the top level (and lower levels) of competitive sport egos are big and places are earnt. Start messing about with that dynamic and no manager lasts long.

I doubt we'll see a single young player starting any match under Roy and he pretty much said as much pre-Sheff U. It would be wonderful to blood some of the impressive talent that we have but Roy's not got the temperament or inclination to do it.

He is loyal to those who have played thus far and clearly doesn't want to deny any of the current players their match fees. I mean, poor loves, how are they gonna feed their families and Ferraris? I'm not sure that you understand the meaning of the word "clearly" as your comment is anything but clear

How very 1800s of you!

Hodgson made it very clear post-Sheff U that the most we can expect is one or two tweaks so as to give some players a rest but no wholesale changes and no giving a player a game for the sake of it. He was adamant about putting out a competitive team for each of the remaining games. He is right to say that. This is professional sport and the integrity of the league demands that clubs put out a team they think can get a result.

I suppose its not impossible, but I doubt it's actually a factor in team selection. What would be interesting is if any of the players say they are not in the right frame of mind to play if not offered a new contract. The club's line has been that contact talks will not commence until we are safe, but now we are. Why would the out of contract players risk an injury in dead rubber games when it could have such an effect on their futures?
