Politics should be kept out of football and sport in general! Just look at the world cup being held in Qatar.....cant throw out russian athletes who have done nothing wrong and then hold a world cup in Qatar!

Every facet of life, they should be attacked and made to realise that what they are doing is unacceptable. The US need to step up and support with gas/oil supplies so we can cut off any reliance on them. Abramovic should be kicked out the country and have his assets seized, this charity nonsense is just an attempt to hide it. Utter tosh. To be honest there should be no World Cup simply because it is Qatar, but now we have another even better reason to pull out. Every European country should boycott it. If they don’t want to go that far then don’t ban Russia but simply refuse to play them, a subtle difference but one that will cause significant problems for a major competition. A united front from the whole of the civilised world is necessary to stop this. Let’s see how FIFA deal with that.

Could it be the fact that the head of FIFA is pals with Putin and is no doubt "in hock" to him like his predecessor was, do you think? I said at the time what a travesty it was that Russia was given: 1) the Winter Olympics, 2) the FIFA World Cup, 3) a place on the Formula 1 circuit (aka circus) but, of course, "money talks", specifically the back-hander type. Meanwhile the Twitterati continue with their puny domestic class wars while failing to recognise who the REAL enemy is.

The politics ain’t working which is why you have to hit them in a way that turns the people against the government. If every sport boycotted playing against Russia then maybe they will start to understand that the world is pretty pissed with them. I do agree we should boycott Qatar for other reasons but at the moment we have other things on our minds.

Invasion of an independent state country next door to NATO members is slightly different. I take your point, but Russia is probing the West here for weakness and it needs to be dealt with in as many non violent ways as possible and sport is one of them.

I have a neighbor who is russian and is against putin. Should we take he house too and freeze his bank account and should I stop playing 5 a side with him on a thursday?
