It's a question of proper cover for if/when Mitchell is injured. A number of people on this site have argued that we need a second LB. My own personal view is that in Schlupp and Riedewald we have adequate cover Whilst Riedewald is probably good enough cover as a right back it's an interesting scenario where the cover earns considerably more than the first choice

Sloppy performance, but we did what we needed to do. Stoke played well and can feel a bit hard done by. Would have been a different story if that ref had given that nailed on penalty early doors. Best part about the game was” Adaramola “ he was terrific, really impressed with him. That’s the left back position well and truly sorted.

I agree about Tayo; I actually thought he looked a lot more composed and ready than when Mitchell first played some games under Roy. That said, Mitchell's subsequent development has been amazing. I also agree that the left back position is not one that needs attention. With Mitchell, Tayo and Schlupp/Riedewald it seems to be well stocked. It was not long ago that Riedewald was man of the match against Arsenal playing at left back. I remember being amazed at just how good his performance was on the night.

Hughes was massively to blame for the Stoke goal. He didn't bother to compete for the through ball that Sawyers picked up, then Sawyers passed him far too easily before putting in the cross from which Stoke scored. I was astonished by how casual he seemed as the threat from the right developed.

Tayo, I'm afraid, is in the PVA tradition. He is attacking I've even seen him pop up on the right wing for the U23s. Defensively Palace's right flank is open, the LB is too far from the right winger and as we saw with Hughes last night, the cover is absent or too slow. Tayo would be better for us up the field imo, otherwise he will have to develop the discipline necessary for the PL. Good luck to him anyway.

AWB started off as a winger then was converted to a right back. In my mind Tayo has a bright future and good luck to him.

Last night he seemed reluctant to bomb forward when he could but seemed intent on playing the ball inside or slowing down the play. Young lad looked more wanting to move forward and had one good run down the line. Liked to of seen him as well in a more attacking way. Also thought Hughes didn't have a great game. Produced more fouls than tackles and his passing looked a bit rough at times. Overall the job was done, result over performance. Hoping for something better against Wolves at the weekend. COYP !!

I couldn't work out if we were more dangerous when we went more direct. When Stoke started to go very direct, it seemed to rattle us. At one stage, they seemed to have more in our final third than we did.

Any possibility of playing Tayo A. on the right, Mitchell on the left? Then our back positions are settled for the next 4-5 years.

I did wonder when people were calling for him instead of Ward what PV was seeing on the training pitch and now we now. He's done ok, but looks uncomfortable in possession and the attacking overlap has disappeared. Still only 30, but i think 2 years of injuries have permanently taken their toll. A good squad player at best.

A good squad player at best. His greatest drawback is he is so so right-footed. If you look, it's the only one he ever uses. This limits hi passing options greatly.
