We have never had it so good.

Great owners who care.
Great scouting system.
Excellent Manager who gets it.
Fantastic squad of young talented players.
Incredible support.
Fantastic youth system.

With the games we have coming up we should be a good position in the league when play resumes boxing day.

All that's missing is the new stand and a working ticketing system.

Bosh! Spot on.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Would be interested to hear your reasoning for believing this. PV has made it clear that he believes we need more experience in the squad and by that I think he means more experienced players who can go into the first team. This may be part of the reason he isn't giving one or more Academy players minutes in the PL games.

The other side of the coin is which youngsters would you give PL minutes to and in place of whom?

For me, before we can risk Academy prospects in PL games, we need to be a team well-placed in the league and high on confidence so that such youngsters can get the support they'll need to adjust to PL football. Look how long it takes more seasoned professionals coming into the league for the first time to adjust (Haaland excepted but then he's a one-off).

Finally, it will be interesting to see who PV chooses to play in the League cup game at Newcastle. Will Phillips and/or Rodney feature in the starting XI?

PS. With regard to the OP's post, yes, despite my pseudonym, I feel fairly positive about our club this season. The next 6 games will be critical for our fortunes in the rest of the season

You answered the question yourself somewhat. I was surprised by Vieira's comments on experience - as it seems to me the club is going for youth. Other factors which make me think it are the relatively slow integration of youngsters - Eze and Olise only played later, and were slowly introduced (perhaps rightly, perhaps wrongly). My own personal opinion, to be more specific, is to start a game with one youngster when we have injuries, instead of shoving someone in who's either rubbish, or not good in that position. We keep on shoe-horning people into positions and wonder why they're not suited.
For very specific, now Clyne is injured and we're left with Ward and Schlupp, use a full back from the U23s or U21s as it is now. It reminds me of AWB. Most of us didn't know him. He wasn't that famous at underage but he was miles better than what we had - as it turned out. Might not work, of course, but another side of five substitutes that hasn't been used yet, is the reverse of how it's being used. Start with a youngster, if they're sh1t bring them off.
Another obvious one for us would be midfield. I have to apologise to every fan for the last match. Honestly, when Luka attempted a sprint (you may remember it) I just burst out laughing. When he passed straight out, I laughed. When his first action was to give away a free (soft I know) I just couldn't help laughing. Honestly, it was like a comedy act. I apologise for saying this but it's how I felt. Why not bring on Phillips? He's not a worse player - he's quite similar currently in my opinion. He's not great but he's young - this is how he will learn.
None of us are getting anything from bringing players on who we already know what we'll get - particularly when that's going to be a comedy turn. Blood a youngster, try them out. We might be presently surprised, it's more likely to be pleasant than some of the (apologies) dross that we're seeing right now - if we genuinely tell the truth to ourselves.
Some of the attitudes towards our youth are hilarious. They are footballers, they can play. They will get better.
The worry I'm talking about is the disconnect between the direction of the club and the direction Vieira wants to take. We invested in the academy. We bought youth. We've signed top youth players. We only bought Doucoure (who is young). The club did not look like it was buying any of the older players Vieira seemed to suggest he wanted. We weren't linked to any. So what's going on there? I'm crystal balling that summer split each manager has had. Frustrated at the transfers. I hope I'm wrong. Just have a feeling.

Thanks for sharing those thoughts ASCPFC. I tend to agree with regard to some of PV's use of subs. Schlupp at LB was a disaster last week and as for Luka...enough said. With 2 games in 3 days coming up, let's see what PV decides to do. I don't see him risking the Academy players tbh as both fixtures are against teams struggling below us and I suspect he'll want his strongest team out for both .

Speaking of positives, a quick butch at the table tells me that tomorrow:

a) We are playing the side bottom of the league
b) A win would move us into the top 10 (albeit temporarily)
c) We'd still have a game in hand over most
d) We 'd have a much better GD than those around us
d) With them playing Man City this weekend, there's a very good chance with roughly 1/4 of the season gone we could be 2 points ahead of the scummy scousers.

Massive 'if' but....
