He must be feeling pretty silly now then.

I don’t suppose so. He probably is looking at the way things have gone since and is convinced that we will re-align ourselves with the EU in a way which delivers it’s benefits whilst avoiding the threats to our sovereignty that he thought would be more difficult to avoid if we stayed inside.

What other conclusion could there be? The evidence is overwhelming.
It's a shame only one person in the whole country saw through his cunning plan.

Yes, but as we know, there is only one person who possesses such levels of perspicacity. We should consider ourselves truly blessed that he chooses to write on here.

I don’t think there was necessarily any kind of plan. It was more likely just him being true to his principles and voting with his heart. It’s possible he felt someone like him being publicly opposed could tip the balance to better terms. I would n’t rule it out. It’s clear he disagreed with the direction the EU seemed to be wanting to take and could no longer support it. Should it be possible for us to rejoin a reformed EU in some way I think you would see a changed approach.

It's possible then that he's rather overestimated his influence as someone who hasn't held a government post for over 40 years.

Who knows? It’s only all speculation. What contacts he has retained and whether his views are listened to is unknown.

My main regret from covid is not upgrading my bike to being motorised.

It would have made my avoidance of the medical profession so much easier.

Interesting report in the Lancet today on the impact of under vaccination on hospital admissions for Covid. It seems that if everyone had been fully vaccinated around 7000 admissions, 17% of the total, could have been avoided. Statistically around 1/3rd of such admissions die, so there have been 2300 excess deaths as a consequence of people not being vaccinated. Great result.

Here is the report:-

It’s complicated and technical. A summary can be read here:-

They certainly appreciated the sacrifices the country made to protect them.
