Says the same s***e every week and does nothing to change it. Expect to hear exactly the same at about 5pm tomorrow unless we pull off a couple of set pieces.

Took a look at our expected goals earlier (xG) I know it's just stats but it's interesting/ worrying to see we have the third lowest and have scored only 2 less than our expected amount. This doesn't point towards strikers continuously missing sitters but highlights the real problem, that we all know, that we create very, very little.

Edouard and Mateta might not be the best, and obviously some of their play contributes to the lack of decent chances that we are creating, however I do feel like they're also feeding off of absolute scraps.

I'd say the bigger worry is our approach play rather than being clinical. Most chances that we've had recently are just a result of fortunate circumstances, snap shots and half chances.

I'd personally just stick with Edouard as I think he's a fairly decent finisher and sort out the players behind him whose job it is to create. Fingers crossed it all clicks tomorrow but I won't hold my breath.

Many of our players seem frightened to step into the opposition penalty area.
Usually if we are on the attack and a player is in a crossing/passing position there is rarely more than one of our players in the penalty area to receive the ball so he is often crowded out.
I don’t think it Vieira’s instructions.
Either the players aren’t fit enough or don’t have sufficient attacking intent to get in the box.
This is part of the reason we miss Gallagher or equivalent as these were two of his major strengths.
We shall have to see if the new midfield players can fill this void.
Our full backs don’t get forward and even a forward such as Ayew does his best work outside the opposition penalty area.
It’s no surprise that some are annoyed by Vieira persistently claiming that we are not ruthless enough as if we are creating and missing loads of chances which, as the previous poster identified, is far from the case.

It's pure laziness. Making a run is all part of the game, this lot prefer to amble, stroll, and shuffle. All down to the coaching and if it isn't working make a few changes. I note that the laziest of them all, Eze, once a starter, has been dropped to the bench - good, it's a start.

For sure at that level you would think effort, energy & the ability to take the game to the opposition would be pretty much a minimum requirement - additionally when a stat comes out that we run the least distances per game in our league its difficult to defend the stat if the appearance of our labours reinforces the stat - obviously its different if your whole game plan relies upon counter attack & are successful / clinical in your attacks at goal & are picking up points almost every game (which we are not)

The Mail today has a good article around Patrick's interview with Martin Keown. It's in the paper's online edition, but I can't copy the link. Anyway, worth a read I think. Our manager might not be at the top of his game yet, but he's giving it his best shot. Patience lads, patience!

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

This is a point I’ve been making for a long time, it’s why I used to dislike Benteke so much, good strikers should be a real handful up front, breaking their backs and sweating blood to rattle defenders and try to make something happen, also attacking the ball in the penalty area and not waiting for it on a plate. Even Mateta and Edouard seem to amble around waiting for the ball to come to them or waiting aimlessly for something to happen

Also can you imagine Lewis Dunk having the time on the ball he did last week up against Wright and Bright?? I don’t think so, they would’ve put him in the stand and Andy Johnson or Clinton would’ve been up him like a rat up a drainpipe!!

I read that article and Vieira comes across (as usual) as an amiable, well meaning chap who seems sincere in his intentions for the club.
However, we are not a young inexperienced team and I would think the average age would be at least mid twenties.
Players like Edouard, Mitchell and Eze aren’t exactly teenagers and aren’t showing any signs of progress this season.
It would be simplistic to put this all down to the manager , but ultimately he will be judged by whether he can get the best out of his players to enable us to get results.

When you say it like that regarding wright bright Morrison and Johnson it really does put it into perspective and I totally agree with you !

He may demand as much as he likes, but with Ayew and Schlupp in the team, how can we score?
