I wish I had a £1 for every report I've heard or read today saying that West Ham have reached the final of "a major European trophy" for the first time since xxxx!

Sorry, there was I thinking that the European Conference thingy was for teams who weren't good enough to qualify for a proper European competition because they couldn't finish 5th or 6th or whatever in the league, and that many clubs who qualify don't even bother to field their best team. And actually no-one really cares.

And, no; if Palace qualified for it, I wouldn't say differently. It might be a bit of a laugh TBH, but I wouldn't kid myself that it somehow put us among the European élite.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

The Zenith Data Systems Cup is the biggie. These other competitions are just silly.

It should be one of the winners of the Carabao Cup or FA Cup that qualify for this competition but the finished in the top four.

It is the reverse of the Champions League where the countries with the higher rating (Coefficient) have less teams in it.

We could buy the company name for a dollar and resurrect it.

Is this suppose to be a post admitting you are not educated on the competition?

Or are you trying to have a dig at it?

What has this got to do with Intertoto Cup anyway which has been gone for decades?

To be fair, I would love to have done what the spammers have achieved in Europe this season, no it’s not the elite, but just some sort of run in Europe, just to have a few foreign teams at selhurst in a competitive competition and not friendlies is the only realistic thing left I yearn for as a palace fan.

We were robbed of Europe in 1991 which was gutting and up there with Ian Wright and Kenny Sansom leaving as my saddest palace moments

If they win they will be in Europa League and lets say they drop out of that early they will go back down to Conf.

That is a good place to be if you are not one of the big teams.

I think people who are attacking it are jealous and its the same case for Carabao Cup people right it off but its a trophy which gives you extras so well worth going for.

I can remember a number of big name managers like Fergie disparaging the league cup until of course it's the only trophy they are in contention for then suddenly they have always taken it seriously.

It's over-exaggerated outrage mixed with irony.

Sorry if that was too complicated for you to understand. Maybe you should try some humour every now and then, instead of always being a miserable git.

In case you still don't get the irony, it's comparing two crap, meaningless, European competitions for under-achievers; one from the past and one from the present. The Intertoto was always dismissed as a joke, especially when we were in it, whereas the one West Ham are in is suddenly being described as "a major European competition".

Capiche?

Didn't we get into the older version of this tournament and then f*** up against some Greek or Turkish side - who were rubbish, just not as bad as us? I've basically repressed the memory.
