Jairo - how many years left on his contract? Don't dislike him but limited and usually looking overweight.

Last year coming up

To be perfectly honest all it shows me is how little money we have to spend and how little ambition we have as a club.

Do you not think that the two statements are oxymoron's. want and can are very different

The much-vaunted academy proving its value again, what is it ? 14 released and no obvious candidates to step up. J R-S apparently being loaned out for a full season to Ipswich.

Won't a club of this size and level of wealth always have a fair number of 'limited' players?

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

And the significance of this is? Eze was also a Hodgson signing

I think you will find that he was a Freedman signing and Hodgson had very little to do with it

The upgraded Academy has only been going for two years. It's not a case of waving a magic wand and suddenly all the youngsters who were there before it opened step up several levels.

What the Academy has achieved over the last two years is attracting better youngsters who previously went to North or West London academies or even academies further afield.

It will take time for these players to come through.

As for Rak-Sakyi, Palace gave him a contract until 2027. The club wouldn't have done that if it thought the player wouldn't make it to the first team squad in due course. A loan out to a Championship club seems a sensible next step in his development. If he shines there as he did in League 1 then we may well see him in our first team squad next season.

He, Adamarola and Ozoh have been given a taste of first team football with Palace albeit briefly, which IMHO is tantamount to saying, "we think you'll be good enough, now go out and hone your skills".

I suspect from postings that you're anti-Parish in all things but to criticise the Academy at this early stage is both unfair and unwarranted.

Our first team is pretty decent and will give most teams a good game as it stands, but it is a very small squad. I think last season we were quite lucky with injuries which was good as we had very little in reserve, especially pre-January. As it stands many in the retained list have not shown they are first-team ready:

Naouirou Ahamada - possible
Joachim Andersen
Jordan Ayew
Nathaniel Clyne
Cheick Doucouré

Malcolm Ebiowei - failed to make an impact at Hull
Odsonne Edouard
Ebere Eze
Vicente Guaita
Marc Guéhi
Will Hughes
Sam Johnstone
Jean-Philippe Mateta

Remi Matthews
Tyrick Mitchell
Michael Olise

Luke Plange - failed to make an impact on loan
Chris Richards
Jaïro Riedewald
Jeffrey Schlupp
James Tomkins
Joel Ward

Those in bold are the 16 outfield players (including Lerma) who have proven they can compete at PL level (17 if Wilf signs a new deal). Jairo has failed to convince and as it stands we have a cluster of young players who may or may not make it. Within the 16 Tomkins is unlikely to be able to manage a significant run of games based on his injury record and the same for Clyne. So far Richards has also been injury prone. Hodgson clearly doesn't rate Mateta and the jury is still out on Edouard.

If we sign no-one else I think we are going to need to be very lucky with injuries again. However, the fact Parish mentioned new players when talking about giving new deals to Ward, Clyne and Tomkins suggests we will be making more signings.

No not at all. Because we can but we just choose not to. And before anyone starts with the 'We've been in administration twice' blah blah I'm talking about strengthening problem positions.. As I said we can but we choose not to.

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

Or maybe we just can’t pin down the players we need or want for whatever reason, and we choose not to get someone in for the sake of it who just isn’t up to the premier league.
I know It is frustrating when as fans we can see what we need, but it’s not like just popping into Tesco’s and plucking a good player off the shelves.

Do you not think that the reason we are not spending yet is we dont have the money, and we would chose to do if we could.

No I think a lot is to do with Zaha. If we pay him 200kpw we will be unable to afford the wages of some of the players we may want. The quicker he makes up his mind or hopefully we withdraw offer the better so we can go into the market and get some new blood
