Feel free to disagree, but Ward Prowse would have been a good buy.
5 mins into his debut he's already made one goal and nearly a second .
He's got the best delivery in the Premier League, always chips in with goals and assists and is a hard worker who'll usually give at least a 7 out 10 performance most weeks.
Can play in a variety of positions and even an emergency right back.
He's in his late twenties , but doesn't rely on pace and could easily play for another 5 years.
It's strange there wasn't more interest in him.

I wouldn't underestimate the set piece.
Sky just put up a graphic (I know - boring) indicating that Ward Prowse created 43 chances from set pieces in the Premier League last season; that was the highest in the league and twice as many as the next highest.
The aim of the game is to score more than the opposition so his skill alone in the set piece area is a valuable attribute.
Mind you, he's been pretty anonymous today other than on set pieces.

Pretty much the same every game , they will still give him a 7 out of ten though
He took every set peice for Southampton and may well do at West Ham but that wouldn't be the case at clubs any higher . He would need a game to go with it .

I know exactly what you're saying (and in some ways agree), but he's got the two assists today which may lead to victory.
I suppose it's about efficiency rather than eye catching brilliance.

We've turned down an 8m bid for Mateta apparently/

From what I've seen Gallagher is an impressive player but more so within teams that are more direct. I think he suited our style down to the ground but less so Chelsea's.

Allegedly Chelsea keen to offload. But no queue of suitors. CG can't be happy at Chelsea. Regular games but not a happy ship. I thought potch would change things but still issues at the Bridge. I would say CG spent the happiest time of his career with us and may take a huge pay cut to revive that.

This suggests we wait till the dying embers of the window to make a low bid of the £20m variety.

However 3 misgivings. One, not pulling up trees at Chelsea and the latter part of his time with us causes me to ponder. Two, he thrived under Vieira. Would he under Roy? Three, if Chelsea were really keen to offload, with their £multi billion squad why do they keep starting him?

Thus, I can see them holding firm for a price we can't afford and/or us breaking our transfer record for a player we don't want. Conversely, e.g. £25 million and £70k per week for that CG who won our POTY would be pants-pulled-down business in today's crazy market.

He's worth every penny. I wasn't sure he would succeed as he came out the womb wearing a Saints shirt.

Parents were avid Pompey supporters.
