We could argue all day about the merits or rather lack of them of this player. He is greedy and will attempt shots when other players are better placed (which achieves the occasional 'worldy') Lazy , doesnt track back which is why Lampard hardly won a game ,that idiot played Deli Ali who cant get a game in the Turkey .

Jeff and Ayew will be insulted to think a player like Gray would threaten their spot in the team , hes way behind them in what he contributes on a football pitch .

Dele Ali came on at half time against us and changed the course of the game and allowed then to come from 0-2 to beating us 3-2. Ok, it was his only decent game in 4 years.

Your being very generous to Everton and Ali if you think anything but our weak second half performance in the face of a volitile crowd had anything to with it .
We melted that day ,which was down to PV more than anyone

And we still need a striker

Schlupp demonstrated on Saturday why we desperately need a left sided player. Completely ineffective and looked lost at times. No support when Mitchell had the ball - in fact at times in the 1st half i thought he was hiding.

I wouldn't be so sure Roy will leaving Schlupp out.
He's a Roy favourite and Roy said a few weeks ago how key for the team it is that Schlupp can be kept fit this season.
Personally I think we could improve in his area, but he does have his strengths.
Interestingly Schlupp was a favourite of Allardyce and Vieira as well as Hodgson, so perhaps the professionals see something that the average fan doesn't see.

we know with Schlupp his positional sense is poor, hence not supporting Mitchell, he can play the left side of a front three but by far his best position is as an attacking left-sided midfielder - he doesn't know what's going on behind him and in his early Palace days I thought he hid at times, but he is an amazing athlete, immensely strong and fast with a sweet left foot for shooting or low crosses - he does his donkey work in midfield but he is very hard to stop at bursting through the lines - I'd rather have him as a squad player than a first team regular but he is highly effective as an inside left - he may be the only inside left remaining on the football planet.

People said the same about Puncheon; but take him out the team and we always lost.

Successive managers have stuck with Schlupp and not just because he's all we have.

If your contribution isn’t dominated by tricks and goals, you ain’t much of a player it would seem.

Schlupp will definitely play - what options do we have? I find it incredible that we have barely been linked with any wingers this summer as we are desperately for competition on both flanks.

However, this season without Zaha he is playing a more advanced role. From the pre season and Sheffield games, a position he seems to be struggling with.

Previously he was used on the left predominantly in a 442 or as the 3rd CM in a 433.

Now he is playing ahead of the midfield in the leading 3. I think this may suit us more in away games, when we play a more compact formation, at home i suspect we will have minimal attacking threat down the left side, unless Eze wanders out there.
