I totally agree with you. Incidentally, my reference to bereavement was a cheeky dig at the thread title (transfer WIDOW).

However, Wilf's departure did free up a large amount of expenditure, and we used a chunk of that saving to improve Olisé's contract

I didnt see that

ANother window which shows us again what is the point of this club we have no ambition but to survive every year so why bother?

If we was doing this and generating lots of money to store or go towards things I could understand but now over a decade in the Prem and we are still happy to operate like this.

This again show we need new people in to control the club.

Spending 25m on a youngster who has done 0 in professional career and is injured already is not good business (It shows we do have some money and wasted like this)

Next spending 20m on a GK when we already have another 3 with it looking like none have them even left the club in the window either.

Buying yet another CB an area we have so many people that can play in madness.

For years we have needed cover on each side yet still nothing.

The most annoying thing is when you look at the other transfers a lot of those names we could have gone for and not cost a lot of money either.

2 out of 10

Amateur club everyone else has no issues with multi signings but we take forever and do not even use loan system.

The only way things will change is if the likes of SP goes he has done well but we need to move on and are stuck with him being in charge its a business not a family gathering.

At the end of the season Palace had FIVE players who could easily have been bought by Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool Spurs and who knows who else. Olise, Ebs, Decoure Guehi and Anderssen have all stayed even though up to yesterday there was talk of Ebs going to Spurs. That they didn't is all praise to Parish and Freedman. They kept a really good squad together. Plus Palace have another top class goalkeeper, a proven EPL defender, a potentially excellent attacking striker/midfielder and another really fine midfielder. Further Palace have three players in the England squad.

Biggest plus keeping Eze, Olise, Guehi, Andersen & Doucoure.
Lerma seems to be great business.
The Jury is out on Henderson, Holding & Franca, the latter has a back problem that sounds like it will keep him out for months.
Front line is extremely weak & needed reinforcing.I would like to dream this is the season Eduoard & Mateta step up & score goals but I will not hold my breath.
The lack of pace in the team is a worry as especially against the better teams it’s how we competed.
The positive is teams like Luton, Sheffield U , Burnley, Everton, Wolves have not really strengthened.
Let’s see how we fair against Wolves, this will be a good barometer for the season going forward.

Once again waking up the day after transfer deadline day expecting no late deals, and Palace didn't disappoint.

After a promising start signing Lerma on a free transfer, it has once again been somewhat of a disappointment.

I realise we needed another Keeper after Guiata's tantrum, but did we really need to go so big on another keeper ? It must have taken a massive chunk of our budget.

I cannot figure out why on earth we have signed Rob Holding, who Arsenal could not get rid of quick enough. After coming in for an injured Saliba last season, their defending went to pieces.

Now for Franca. It's not only concerning he arrives injured but there is no expected return date.

I said in a post recently that we can't even complete with Forest or Bournemouth now, let alone the likes of West Ham. Forest sign Sangare from PSV on deadline day (terrific signing), and Bournemouth get Sinisterra on loan (the left sided player we needed, so why could we not get him on loan ?,).

Looking at the expenditure table, we are 4th off bottom with only Luton, Burnley and Everton below is. I said this recently, in terms of finances we near the bottom of the table.

We somehow kept all our key players apart from Wilf who we’ve replaced with Franca. The jury is out on that one obviously.

We have replaced Luca with Lerma. I think that’s a proper upgrade.

We replaced Guita with Henderson, another upgrade, and one that was forced upon us- probably blowing up our plans to finally replace Benteke.

And yes we had to do it given how important that position is and the fact that Johnston is injury prone.

We still need full backs

A solid 6 out of 10

Another stereotypical Palace window really. Failing yet again to bring in players in areas where they are most needed.
I still find it odd that we have paid £20m on a back up goalkeeper.
We are seriously short in forward options and now have to rely pretty much on Mateta and Edouard as our only strikers. Very frustrating when you see clubs like Forest bring in somebody like Origi on loan. I'm not saying Origi would of been the answer but he certainly would of provided us with another quality option.

Yet another season of enduring Joel Ward at right back as well.. We complain about our lack of creativity yet we insist on playing a right back and left back who are poor going forward and can only ever seem to be able to pass backwards.

Don't get me wrong we will stay up. Luton and Sheffield United are so poor that 2 of the 3 relegation places are taken already really which will just leave one place to fight over. I do fear if we carry on with this lack of ambition and doing everything on the cheap then it will catch up with us in the end.

As great as it is to of kept our big players we also have to be realistic and accept that this will most probably be Eze, Doucoure and Guehi's last season at the club. That will leave massive gaps next season.

I couldn’t agree more!

The whole “well we tried but it’s a really difficult window to get deals over the line” messaging that we will inevitably get is undermined by the Bournemouth, Everton and Forest signings.
I am massively disappointed that our main weaknesses (RB, and striker positions) yet again haven’t been resolved.

But it’s okay……..we signed Rob Holding.

For the fans it’s 5/10, if Parish it’s 10/10 because we don’t have the strike power to get into Europe (which he doesn’t want because it forces him to spend) and we have enough mids and defenders to avoid relegation.

Agreed with your fans assessment.

The Parish assessment laughable.

I think I’ll decide at the end of the season, if we finish in the top half or even qualify for Europe, I’ll give the window 10/10, if we get relegated I’ll give it 0/10

Players are only easily bought when their contracts are nearing an end. There was no pressure to sell any of our top players as they are all on decent length contracts and in all cases they have not reached their value ceiling. It is not a victory holding onto these players, it is straightforward business sense. I fully expect one if not two will go next year and a new manager will replace them with his own players.

What this window does not excuse is the failure to fill the glaring holes in the squad with loans, nor does it explain the prioritisation of spending as we have on a keeper a young injured kid and a bang average CB where there were pressing needs elsewhere.

Your last paragraph adds nothing to your comment.

FFP will get Forrest and (especially) Bournemouth in the end, just like it has with Wolves. We have people running the club who care deeply about the club and have guided as so far to be in the best position the club has ever been in. Parish is creating legacy and not instability through overspending or gambling, that I support. Trust the long term view.

The Queen supports Crystal Palace. Perhaps she'll buy the club then legitimately all the money in England shall be ours. Plus all the swans.

Not a window to push on to the top 10 but one for a sensible mid table finish.

Keepers: strengthened a bit and Henderson / Johnstone should be a good for several seasons to come.

Central defenders: strengthened a bit. Holding probably a better option than Tomkins.

Central midfield: Lerma in, two great players well past their best, Luca and Jimmy Mac, out. Definite upgrade.

Wide positions and striker - a poor window. We just have to hope Franca turns out to be good and that Olise fully recovers.

The squad is thin, any big injuries to key players and we will struggle.

Next summer will be a massive test as we are bound to lose one or two of our big names. Let’s hope we are better prepared than we were for the loss of Wilf.
