Perhaps the 2 that got away over the summer that RH refers to?

Hughes was so good yesterday we can afford to rest Lerma until after the international break.

Fingers crossed the break doesn't send half our team back in an ambulance (what is the collective noun for ambulances? A ner-ner?)

Boring, I know, but it's a fleet.

True. Thank heaven Guehi was only minor. Or is it?

Galitasera not happy they got Wilf pig in a poke. Their due diligence nothing we did wrong. However, makes you think how many players are compelled to play injured? The rich clubs can rest their players properly. We cannot.

I would speculate that Wilf's injury woes (both now and in the last year or two) are the result of him rushing back to play too soon, too often over the years.

On more than one occasion he had hamstring injuries that normally require a 6-8 week rest, yet was somehow back playing after 2-3. Roy would often remark on Wilf's ability to heal quickly, but I think we all know that it was the players desire to play that was the key, along with (as you say) us having very little option but to pick him if he declared himself fit.

It will be interesting to see if Olise, Franca, Eze, Guehi et al follow a similar pattern. For one thing, players with Wilf's desire to play through pain are few and far between. In addition, we were never going to sell Wilf, relying instead on him to play. The plan will be to sell most or all of the current young stars at some stage, and if any of them develop transfer-scuppering injury problems it will affect our new economic strategy quite drastically.

Through a combination of the players mindset and the clubs policy, I can't imagine any of the current lot playing themselves into the ground like Wilf did.

Hamstring injuries are graded due to their severity. A mild strain (a few weeks) up to a full tear (3 months as per Olise).
It is difficult to compare say 2 people with a strain as there are levels within that and this will impact the healing time.
I don't think Wilf could be rushed back from such an injury as if you've ever done your hamstring you will know it is impossible to run.

Also, remember all Prem teams probably have oxygen tanks etc which are used to speed up the healing process.

Most players are prepared to play through a few aches and pains - i remember Jose at Chelsea, during the peak of their powers, being really unhappy with Robben when he refused to play when he had a mild injury, so it is clearly not just a Palace issue.

No doubt Lerma will be called up by Columbia and will return injured again.

Muscular injuries are almost entirely caused by poor conditioning and preparation. They are rarely 'unfortunate'. I presume that SP knows this and will be reviewing things with his staff. There are strength and conditioning teams out there whose clubs record as little as one or two muscular injuries all season. We can ill-afford loyalty to our S&T team if they continue to fail in their main purpose.

One wonders which ex players are doing this job.

Probably still short of match fitness, but how good to see Franca, in training with the team, looks pretty sharpe, and might soon come into the picture, definitely looks useful . After the recent run of injuries, a bit of good news, and who knows after the international break he might be on show.

Is it not the same team that have kept us relatively injury free in past seasons then? I know other staff members get shuffled around and move on as well as the players, so I honestly don’t know.

You would like to think that Eze is not as bad as portrayed, and it would be a ploy to rest him and keep him out of an England call-up, maybe i am wide of the mark.
