i think there are two simple metrics on which we can determine whether to sack a manager.

Win %

viera: 29.73
Hodgson: 32.26 from 31 games

if we lose to brentford, everton, arsenal and shefield wednesday then Hodgson's win percentage will fall below vierra's

Points per game
Viera :1.229
Hodgson:1.258

current points won is 39
accordingly we have vierra equivalent point attaintment equivalents.
Brentford:39.35
everton : 40.58
Arsenal : 41.81
Sheff wed:43.04

current points won is 39. I'd want to examine after sheffield wednesday, but Hodgson's record this season( never mind the bournemouth performance) isn't encouraging.

The big difference between this and the Vieira situation is that under him, we looked like we could never win a game. The performances became totally unacceptable.
I think that only in the Bournemouth game did we perform anything like that badly.

The trouble is that no one can predict the outcome of sacking Roy.
I'd be happier to see new blood at the club in January than a change of manager, especially since the current available options are not very appealing.

You need a manager, regardless of ability, who's fighting for their career, their reputation or to try and get a better job. Someone with skin in the game.

I like Roy, but Roy can do what he likes, say what he likes and deep down has absolutely nothing to motivate or push him so he's not gonna be staying up all night trying to find the way to unlock the teams potential, why should he?

Whilst refreshing candour is always appreciated his slating the fans for being spoilt, telling the press Chelsea wont be "worried about the team he's bringing" and everything else is just symptomatic of someone who is beyond comfortable in their situation, and his comfort will in no way be impacted by the teams form.

He needs to go, and we just need frankly anyone right now who might give it a f**king good go at it because as someone else said we're in freefall right now.

You make a very good point. I can relate to that but at my point of retirement. I was working out a 6 months period with a lifetime knowledge of the industry but felt no concern about our performance. It could be Roy is subconsciously going through this which could be further justification for relieving him of his duties. If the Board really want Cooper then they should take him now and they will stand or fall by their decision. Not sure I would but I don’t have to decide.COYP

One other factor is that Parish might be growing increasingly concerned about Hodgson's less than professional responses to the media that seem to follow every disappointing result. He's starting to become somewhat of a comical cantankerous old man and the spitting on the ground last night was a bit embarrassing. On one hand it would be sad to see his time at Palace end on a low point, but on the other hand it could get lower.

I do want to say that I heard Cooper turned us down previously but we put a different spin on it. However, things change quickly in football.

My dear wife has referred to me in terms which equate to a "Cantankerous old man".

There have been comments about Mr Hodgson being seated seemingly detached from the game. It s feasible he was feeling a tad unwell and the "Spitting" could have been the result of an ailment.
I was certainly "Spitting feathers" last night.

I can't imagine you strolling down Worthing seafront gobbing on the beach, even if you were to be inflicted with a bronchial issue. Seeing any manager spitting is fairly unsightly, but somehow it does look worse when that manager is in his mid seventies.

I cannot recall the last time I traversed Worthing seafront, I am not too enamoured with the town. I reside west of Worthing and have no recollection of salivating on my local beach. If I had a bronchial issue and needed to do so in haste I suspect I would gallivant down that path probably with a degree of sublety.

I do think we need a change and it’s time for Roy to go, however what’s not his fault is the 2 strikers we have, the 1 left back and further penny pinching at right back for years.

What he’s also not responsible for is the further negligence from the setup in not replacing Wilf and don’t get me started on splashing out on Henderson, when the money could have been used to fill the aforementioned gaping holes in our squad.

Parish & Dougie need to take a real hard look at themselves and decide wether they’re the right people to take us to the next level and by that I don’t mean next level down.

Its basically two choices Roy's goes and a new coach comes in to freshen up the tactics and a more attacking attitude with a couple of loans, or we buy a couple of players that will go straight into the first team and a couple of loans as well, i would like to see both happen, but i think the 1st option will happen, its gone stale, the training must be monotonous

I agree Lanzo - think Roy is lost - body language last night seems to support that..!!

IMO - we’ve thrown away 5 points in the last 2 games due to poor tactics and game management - both Brighton and Chelsea were there for the taking had tactics and game management been more positive..!!

And therein lies the heart of the issue it’s the negativeness that’s costing us and that now seems to be reflected in the players.

That’s why Roy has got to go - TBH I’m surprised that there hasn’t been an an announcement already..!!

Anyone else going the through the ‘fuming’ don’t talk to me for 12 hours scenario.

I just get so upset with Roy and his tactics - my poor wife…going to buy some flowers now!

Like you I think the first option will happen but because SP will see sacking the manager is a cheaper way of changing things than recruiting players.

Sad end to Roy's time. He really should have left and retired at the end of last season with his stock held high.

Why it took a long time to announce him as manager is probably due to the fact other possibilities were approached and turned us down. The entire summer window was a shambles from the time it took to re-install the manager, to the lack of first team ready additions to an already imbalanced squad.

Two of our attacking options of the bench this season have been JRS (playing League 1 last year) and Ebiowei (who was a bench warmer at Hull).

That is the prime reason why we are struggling.

Roy is getting the stick whilst Teflon Steve and the board stay quiet. Of course, if we win against Brentford, he'll be posting on social media.

We are in exactly the same situation we were a year ago. You can change the manager every season, but eventually gambling with a ineffective squad will take us down.

I suspect it could be this year.
