Good job we've got all those goals coming from our dynamic attacking midfield that's supposed to be worth £70mil as well.

Yes really - and you answered your own question. If your team carries no attacking threat at all then you have nothing.

I know nothing about Sunderland but I'd hazard a guess that their full backs aren't far behind ours either.

You don’t. You’re right about our forwards but not the defence. I bet Luton Burnley Sheff U looked good last season - how are they looking now. Look forward to Guehi and Anderson finding their level and signing for Plymouth or Cardiff.

I have said before, he is a CF in the making, he will start next season as CF.

I was just looking at the scoring records for Mateta and Edouard, this is more or less the third full season for both in a Palace shirt, and neither have hit double figures. To have a striker that could get 12 plus goals a season would be a tremendous boon.

It’s also down to service as well as the quality supplying them and I’m sure in the championship they would score 15-20 goals a season? It’s also down to the quality of the defender they are up against which in the premiership is high in quality / organisation

Absolutely, the approach play is of the essence. I've remarked before that Edouard will try and get in front of a ball put in the box, other than that he is a bit too lazy for my liking. I doubt either he or Mateta would hit 15/20 goals in the Championship though.
As an aside I was watching a compilation of goals scored by Hwang for Wolves to date. A good signing for them, robust in style, energetic, keeps up with play and knows where to run to in the box. 6 goals in 10 games this season. £13m transfer fee apparently.

Putting out a team with a back four and Hughes, Lerma, Doucoure and Schlupp leaves only 2 attack minded players. The first three are defensive midfielders and the latter has awful attacking stats from last season, 3 goals and 1 assist in 34 games. As a result we were only relying on luck to take control of the game in an attacking sense, which 9 games out of 10 will not happen. Would of at least hoped in a home match we would show a little bit more intent from the start.

I find it disappointing that people criticise Edouard and Mateta but give Ayew a “free pass”. Looking at their Premier League stats over the past three years Mateta has scored 8 goals / 4 assists in just under 2494 mins (28 match equivalent), Edouard 15 goals / 4 assists in 3151 mins (35 match equivalent) and Ayew 8 goals / 8 assists in 5582 mins (62 match equivalent). Furthermore most of Mateta’s appearances have been as sub especially when we are behind but Ayew starts most games. Given his poor record for losing the ball (top of the EPL stats 23/24, top 22/23, 4th 21/22) I wonder what his purpose in the team is other than running around making a nuisance of himself?

If you are a player like Ayew who gets loads of possession often in hopeless no win positions then you will occasionally get a free kick in a dangerous position but more often lose the ball.

If you hang about with little effect you will rarely touch the ball so this stat will appear "better".

Important not to place too much faith in numbers considered in isolation.

The four teams below Tottenham have all won this weekend (assuming City hold onto their 3-goal lead) by at least a two-goal margin. Just a bit of perspective.

Ok guys i havent read any of previous posts , so evert chance alot has already been said ,

My view of the game spuds wasnt doing anything great they looked bang avg for a team top of the lge ,

we was most of the game in control but a lucky goal and spuds went up a gear , and then broke a cardinal sin not picking up the runner for the 2nd goal , that is defending 101.

thought Hughes put in more than a shift and for that shouldnt have been taken off at that time , Franca should have come on for edouard not for Hughes then bring Ravi on and so on ,

Now for why i needed to replace my tele what the F!@#$%^ was our forwards doing allowing spuds to pass the ball back to the keeper god knows how many times when we are losing , without closing the the keeper down and forcing them to take the ball towards us , then we could have won the ball back and tried to attack , we must have lost a good 5 mins because of that,

Now VAR for F@#$% sake how many looks does it take to come up with not clear and obvious , it allowed spuds over 2 mins to regroup , sack that prick who cant make up there mind in 30secs

Think I have covered everything , role on next game should be close to having play makers back

if you cant see the difference in quality from Ayew to the two numptys up front you need the optitions, FFS

Obviously Guehi and Andersen are the exception. But the rest of the on field starting line up offers precious little quality IMO not just the forwards.
