Some good comments here..I just don't think he should be knocking the youngsters, see how things turn out against Burnley and Everton

I saw it as Roy doing it as a challenge to these subs/young players. He can't have a go at the older players (as they won't stand for it) in this way but he can aim it at the younger ones and get away with it and hopefully get a positive reaction from them.

I hope this doesn't put Roy off playing youngsters though as i'm praying he gives a striker from the U10's a chance against Burnley rather than those 2 numpty's, Lazy G1t and Headless Chicken, who we play up front every game!

At our club we have several positions in the side where a 16 year old who can play football would do just as well as the supposed professionals we have. Up front is the first that springs to mind. Edouard over Mateta but pretty much anyone except them anyway.

I think some people are being naive if they think Roy is just a pleasant, avuncular chap.

He's a Premier League manager with 500 games under his belt. You don't achieve that by being nice all the time.

His words may seem a little harsh especially as they are in the public domain, but he was right in what he said.

The youngsters need to step up when given an opportunity, and I think he was making that point.

And I'm sure he will be re-iterating that in training this week.

I also think that people forget that 90% of the games he played for Flamengo (which admittedly wasn't many) where in the center of the pitch, CF, AM or SS

With these comments Roy is attempting to shift attention away from his favoured tactics which for him end in a perfect 0-0. It worked at home against Forest and Fulham, congratulations.
I'm not sure how stating that a top ten finish is the aim on the one hand, and playing for 0-0 results on the other can possibly exist on the same page, but here we are.
Chuck youngsters on for 10/15 minutes to chase a losing game and then insinuate that it didn't happen because of them, ha ha...

I hope not too, Ayew LW, Ahamada AM, Schlupp RW and Franca CF, with Ebowei coming on for Schlupp or Ahamada, but i think that is unlikely as me having a c**p in King Charlies Briefcase

Hodgson was pleased with the teams general performance he made that very clear, so he wasn’t under mining the teams confidence. Having said that he was very truthful to the young players, they are all he is left with, and in every respect this is the big time, they have to perform, and he can not wait for them to find that out by some longer route.
I think it’s the board he is really frustrated with, what he has said was as much for them as these lads , because he really should not have to throw them into the fire, as is the case when getting hammered at St James, and losing 2-0 to a top of the league Spurs . It’s a bit of a joke really, as we were never going to put them on 3-0 up were we? And that’s how it should be done, no pressure.

Not at all. Roy praised the overall performance of the players.

The last few games have been frustrating. Without the creativity of Eze and Olise we are left with a workmenlike outfit with the already known gaps in squad quality and quantity now being highlighted. Quite what more Hodgson can do about that I don't know.

I didn't interpret his comments as blaming the youngsters for losing the game. Just that they didn't have the positive impact hoped for.

Oh and the aspiration of a Top 10 finish clearly died when the transfer window closed. Hanging onto our star players was laudable but the budget was spent badly.

Yes he should go, worst form of management undermining young players who need a confidence boost not a dressing down in front of the public!

I think perhaps the youngsters would do better given more chances and opportunity
Once Eze and Olise return sell off Mateta, Schlupp, Tomkins and Reidwald in January and buy 1 or 2 upgrades and put more youngsters on the bench

Give it a rest, please. You may consider your fulsome disdain to be 'my opinion and entitled to it' but you have this entrenched view of Mr Hodgson which will never shift, regardless of the evidence presented to you time and time again which refutes your stubborn view..

According to you, we should go gung-ho for the win, no matter who we are playing. God, I'm glad you're not in control of the team: we'd be relegated by now if you were.
