Imagine if the Fuhrer was an intelligent non-junky ? Instead of a madman ? Things could have ended much worse. Up to and including an invasion of the UK. And/or a Fascist running Germany ( & empire) for 30 or 40 years.
General Franco reigned for ages. Imagine had Hitler done so ?

The 1943 plans to assassinate Hitler were cancelled when the Allies realized how poor his judgement was. The last thing you want is Adolf being replaced by a competent Nazi. Rommel , for example.
