My Chelsea supporting brother in law was slagging brentford off recently after they won 2-0 at the bridge. He was giving it the old park the bus and anti football bollocks. Without saying it, he was also having a little dig at us. So obviously I reminded him the likes of us and Brentford can’t compete with a billion pound in spending and have to compensate. If Brentford had gone all out attacking football and tried to be more entertaining even this average Chelsea team would’ve wiped the floor with them. I doubt Brentford fans came away from the bridge thinking blimey that was a boring performance

I also reminded him that Mourinho didn’t exactly play total football at Chelsea, but it was effective and they were winners, obviously Chelsea fans didn’t care because they were winning every week

So basically no one gives a monkeys about the style of play as long as you’re winning, we wiped the floor with Leeds up there last season, but at the time before the game we would’ve taken a dull 0-1 win.

We are boring a lot of the time under Roy and it can be frustrating when we watch the team sitting back and showing teams too much respect, but if we do get a result, do we care? Course we don’t, it’s only a problem if we’re boring, sit back and still end up losing

Look at the teams outside the top 4 or 5, i dont see anyone playing "entertaining" football, if Andersen, Guehi, Doucoure, Eze and Olise were all fit then we would be playing like we finished last season, all five of them would get into any team, Except maybe Man City, but we have had all 5 playing together 49 minutes all season, and you cant expect their standings to be nothing but average, get real FFS

not sure i agree. Newcastle and Brighton are 7th and 8th and both have been very entertaining this season.

When we drew 0.0 recently with both Forest and Fulham, both looked far more attack minded than we did and we were a little lucky to get a point from both games.

In the final 18 months of Roy's last tenure even when we won it often didn't feel like it so dire was the football. Most people had had enough and so Roy left. Given on average we only win about a third of our games that problem is always likely to raise its ugly head.

I could only get so far into the article before it asked to log in, so I can only go on what I read up to then.
What the article omitted to mention is that to make the league look genuinely competitive, it must have 20 teams in it, despite that is fixed in favour of Saudi billions and dodgy VAR referees.
17 teams are there to make up the numbers, with a little carrot dangling promising Euro competition if one is good.
Entertainment? What's that? It's all about survival by any means necessary to be part of the PL club. Roy knows the score.

To be fair you’re right, even some of the wins were grim, put I still say when I was walking up Whitehorse lane after a tergid 1-0 win I was quite happy. The problem comes when you don’t win a game like that. Also Roy’s last season we’d started to ship a lot of goals and we took some good hidings, also being outplayed by average/poor sides so his time was definitely up.

For a while I got kind of a respectful nod from other fans for being Palace. It's back to an open laugh again now. We're not that boring, more just crap. If we weren't Palace ourselves, we'd take the piss out of our squad and manager. Sometimes we still do anyway.

Sure this is football banter. I like to laugh at Millwall and Charlton just wish I could do the same for Brighton.

The point is that most of the fans outside of the PL would give their right arm to be boring Palace.

We are and it does. Have we not after a decade had enough of near unwatchable sufferball up here? Never mind pushing for top half or Europe or whatever (though the neglect of the cups remains a disgrace on the part of the club), the bare minimum should be us being enjoyable to watch and something to look forward to instead of allegedly having to sit in our box heading balls away for most of the game away at Burnley and Brentford.

I think this club takes the fans for granted and has settled into believing they can serve any old s*** up and get nothing back. You'd have hoped in Roy's last season when they were definitely told otherwise that they'd buck their ideas up but apparently not, we are treated to one more season of crap on the pitch and off it before they pretend to us that they'll have a go next summer with a shiny new manager who Parish will have lied to

George Graham’s Arsenal were known as ‘boring boring Arsenal’ and 1-0 to the ar-se-nal’ but they won trophies and I don’t remember their fans being too bothered.

Football has become boring generally. There's not a scratch of romance left and Man City and Pep Guardiola one of the most boring teams to watch of all.

Not at all, as an Arsenal fan reminded me at the time. Nor Barcelona fans I would imagine, as they would watch their side pass endlessly around the midfield waiting for that opportunity, which of course would come and they would inevitably win. Horses for courses.
