I saw Kitchens of Distinction at The Old Trout, very good they were too!

Croydon used to have a few very good venues.

The Greyhound existed until the early days of pink and a few bands around that time played at the Red deer in South Croydon.

Cartoon was a bit more pub rock/ r n b but a band called The Drivers were regulars the lead singer found fame in The Cutting Crew
Then in the late 80's early 90's there was The Underground top of St George's Wall.

Loads of bands there from Bangles to 100000 Maniacs to Sigue Sgue Sputnik.

Also don't forget the grand old lady of them all the Fairfield Halls.

In 1964 I went to Cheam Baths to watch the Dave Clark Five who had just had a big hit with a song. I forget what it was called though

Led Zeppelin played Bromley Tech College in spring 1969. I also saw Pink Floyd there the same year although they were by then quite well established.

I guess what this shows is that there are just no small venues now who put on bands.

Yes you get the 'two in the room' places but not a lot else. May also be down to pubs not having a 'function room.' Growing uploads of pubs had the big hall out the back, often with it's own bar that hosted music during the week and catered for like cal life events at other times.

My grand parents ran pubs mostly in SE London but their final pub was the Gun in Croydon which used to host a lot of jazz
