Nice to see our ex-goalie doing well and winning silverware in Scotland. The Rangers fans seem to have taken to him, singing his name to an old Quo song. Strange thing is, if an England squad was to be picked right now, with Johnstone and Pope injured and Ramsdale out of favour at Arsenal, on form, he'd have to get in in front of Henderson. Wonder if he's on Southgate's Radar.

What I didn’t understand at the time and still don’t is why Palace let him go so easily. First on a half season loan to Man U and then released free at the end of the season. Only to then spend £20m on Henderson as a replacement and reputedly put him on high wages. Judging by last night’s performance he isn’t an upgrade on Butland and a lot more expensive. It may be true that Butland didn’t want to stay but why did he want to be 3rd choice at Utd when the previous season he got the odd league game and had the FA Cup run through to the semi final here. It would be ironical and so Palace if he did now get back in the England squad ahead of Henderson

Unlike the rumours about Johnstone, Butland really did want to move back north. Plus at the time he was 3rd choice behind guita (boo!)) and Johnstone.

I didn’t know about his wish to ‘go north’. Explains what happened. Also by pre season as it transpired he would have moved up to 2nd choice after Giuiata decided to throw his toys out the pram!
