Yep, he's be mischaracterised as if he said 'all' of course, but most of us understand that he's just talking the truth.

It's not always as easy as someone being crap....one example is that some pretty nice women get abandoned by their partners and raise their young children in poverty without a dutiful good father figure.....that can lead to serious issues down the line.

But yeah, generally selfish and negligent parents raise damaged kids.

his 'news' is as old as time. And is correct.

Mass Shootings are invariably carried out by kids with a messed up childhood.

the BBC are looking to discredit him.

I have been Teaching Secondary School Kids for nearly 40 years. Looking forward to retiring in the not too distant future.
I find what he is saying is generally correct. Usually poor behaviour comes through poor parenting. However not always the case, have come across plenty of great kids from dreadful parents and great parents who have dreadful kids despite doing all the right things. He probably should have emphasised the exceptions, however, any journalist looking for a story would probably still ignore this.

It's mainly all in the genes........ and most of them should simply have kept them zipped up.

I've often thought that God made a large design error when designing the human race as rather than inventing a pill to stop having children it should be the other way round and both male and female should have to take a pill to actually conceive

I am not sure that "poor parenting" is the best description although I know what he means.

I come from a poor working class family. My parents made plenty of mistakes which the Twitterati of today would be appalled by.

However my parents were aspirational for their children and this I think is the key. Parents who have no aspirations for their kids are the ones that should be criticised.

A lot of kids are told by their parents why bother with education. The parents probably hated school and felt it did nothing for them so in turn do not push their kids.

My mother god bless her was not very bright and missed the key years of education due to being evacuated during the war. However she was the driving force in our family to do well at school and get a job in an office as opposed to working on a building site like my dad.

Sadly a lot of the kids I grew up with didn't have that push from their parents.

Pretty much the same. Parents week by week to get by but valued school. No “i don’t feel well” days off and it was spring park then ashburton. Not exactly cream of the local schools but I consider I’ve survived and done what I could for my chavs. They’ve turned out ok and are all contributing. I suppose the negative post above must be a cap fits moment for the poster maybe

I don't know what it is about today's parenting, but many just seem to ignore their children. The number who go to my granddaughter's junior school without being able to properly dress themselves or read at a basic level is alarming.

The language some of these 8 or 9 year olds use is real X rated stuff - the kids don't have much of a chance in life without a great deal of effort on their part.

Some of our young players are a good example of triumph over adversity - Eze, Mitchell and Guehi came from poor backgrounds and are all the better for making huge efforts and sacrifices to get where they are.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

kids turning into happy healthy productive Adults ?

i guess its 50:50 nature and nurture.

Mozart would not have been a musical genius without the driven father.

I heard of one family with a ton of kids plus one adopted kid. The Latter was from a dysfunctional background. All the kids got loving caring parenting. But the adopted one ended up in jail anyway.

Twins separated at birth are fascinating. The commonality of hobbies & life-outcomes seem to often happen , in spite of any parental influence.
