Anyone else noticed how few penalties we get now. Previous the likes of Wilf, AJ and others took the ball into the penalty area, bit of body swerve and the poor defender is suckered into giving a penalty. Eze and Olise are both brilliant, and arguably best placed to achieve this, but tend to stick just outside the area. So if no-one wants to head the ball, take short ones and run into the area. OK it won't work every time but, as said before, until some proper coaching is in place, then this might be a better strategy.

As you inferred Olise is a very different player to Wilf. Wilf (especially early Wilf) would hold onto the ball for far too long and try to bamboozle, often succeeding.

Olise is significantly more direct, always looking for a opportunity to pick someone out in the box. He doesn't run at defenders for the sake of it.

Has anyone discussed the fact that Olise is left-footed yet plays as a right winger.

The opposition know he tends to cut inside and use his stronger left foot. So far, despite being mass-marked (as Zaha was) he has successfully bamboozled most defences.

I just wonder if he would be equally effective on the left-wing?

Discuss.

I remember the halcyon days of Zaha on one wing and Bolassie on the other ... and then remember we have two No.9's who haven't much clue of how to meet and execute a header at goal.

Watching his last few games, he often runs the flank first few times he gets it. My assumption was that this is to put the opposition in a state of mind that he'll do this every time when he prefers to cut in.

If you have Glenn Murray up there, getting the ball in the box is often the priority. With the options we have, will be wasted effort a lot of the time.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

It's all inside forwards/ inverted wingers these days. I think the best argument was with Benteke. Out and out wingers cross - likelihood for Benteke to score. Inside forwards cut inside and shoot - strikers need to be able to react and play with their feet. It's the obvious reason why a big number 9 won't score. Our issue is exacerbated by Olise being our only natural option, perhaps Ayew, everyone else is just not a winger/ inverted or not

In fairness to our current side, I think we're better off with the inside forwards. Even though both of our strikers are quite tall - I don't rate them that highly in the air. However, to give credit where it's due, I've noticed both challenging more in the air than they did originally.

Makes me think of how good Andy Thorn was at flicking the ball on at the near post from corners, it was incredible how many he’d win. Obviously it needed good delivery as well and clearly we worked at it in training. It was an excellent weapon because once he got that flick on it created havoc in the penalty area

New signing Daniel Munoz has scored 19 goals for Genk (in 148 games) - 11 were headers - so he will add a bit of aerial threat at corners.
