In all the negativity brought on himself by Hodgson, I just wanted to say the 2 new boys looked good given the circumstances and the roles they were expected to play. They both showed good signs and will go on to become firm fan favourites in the weeks and moths ahead.

Wharton looked to get on the front foot with the ball and freed Lerma up to chase further up the pitch. Munoz looked comfortable and keen to get forward as well. With a more attacking manager and philosophy I am sure they will be a welcome addition.

Good post. This has got overlooked in all the outpouring of emotion after the game yesterday but I feel sorry for them...their first game in the Premier League should have been really exciting, but instead it was a heavy defeat and a cacophony of boos and abuse for the team from their own fans. Not a nice experience.

Have to agree that they have walked into a toxic atmosphere and it can’t be easy. Look two good buys, a shame the board wasn’t more proactive in the previous 3 transfer windows and we wouldn’t be in this situation.

Also at least one of them has championship experience, which may help.

I also thought the new boys will be an upgrade - you could see the potential and football IQ in Wharton, Muñoz clearly has some attributes we have been missing for some time in that position. However, I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think we also have been less defensively secure since Wardy got injured .... his experience and influence on the pitch perhaps has been overlooked.

Hopefully a new manger (should someone "accept the mission" might see them as key components of the required new Palace identity, versus the dross "Royball" that currently characterizes the team.

Munoz's performance was very encouraging. Excellent workrate from both him and Wharton.

I agree, both look really strong additions. The way Wharton created space with a drop of a shoulder showed real composure in a tough environment. He doesn't look like a kid who will be phased by the step up and was constantly looking to receive the ball. Like many players he just needs to recognise in the PL you don't get any time on the ball.

Munoz is definitely going to add some energy down the right and might help compensate a bit for Olise's inevitable absence, although one slight concern might be getting caught on the counter.

These two were the only bright spots on Saturday. They were the only reason I kept watching at 3-0 at 3am here.

Wharton started completing passes, had a turn of speed and is exactly what we needed in the middle.

Munoz had a bit of a nervy start, understandably, but settled into the game, looks a good tackler, look forward to seeing more of him.

I’ve only seen the highlights so I’ll take those that were there’s word for it, but whatever their performances were like, it was a tough old game for them to make their debuts. But at least it feels like we’re going to see plenty of them, unlike a few other signings who’ve not been given much game time we’ve signed in recent windows

Agree with all.

I also spent the 2nd half concentrating on the new boys.

Wharton looks something special. At 18 to come straight into a derby, toxic atmosphere, team crumbling around you. Wow.

Confident and expressive. He is going to be a Rolls Royce of a player

I am generally a pro Roy fan but totally disagree with him naming Wharton as responsible for 3rd goal.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

I agree, Ward has been missed at the back, especially the last ditch challenges and his heading ability. Just perhaps we need him when fit and play Munoz in front of him? Might help us more at the back where we are so frail presently and might be the difference between a draw and a defeat as every point is needed at the moment?
