Sometimes a limited experience of the squad can be a good thing: it can mean a fresh pair of eyes and different options where previously it was perceived there were none.

I recall Sven Goran Eriksson's first match with England against Spain (https://www.englandstats.com/matches.php?mid=776). Certain players in that squad were inexperienced at international level (eg Lampard, Ehiogu, Ball) or unlikely ever to be considered by leading domestic managers who "knew the players" (Powell, McGann). Ok, not all of those turned into world beaters, but there was a view that England didn't have a decent specialist left back at that stage (remember Phil Neville at Euro 2000?). Powell certainly didn't disgrace himself. I remember he did quite well, albeit a little too risk averse.

Let's hope OG - if it is him - brings that fresh pair of eyes and can bring some of the prospects to the fore as well as revitalize some of our established players.

Really? Vieira had no EPL pedigree; and have you forgotten a certain Dutch man?

I've not forgotten either of the points you raise.

But neither Vieira or de Boer took over mid season with the club involved in a relegation battle.

depending on Roy's health we might have had to bring someone in anyway. What was the alternative - Paddy to the end of the season? Appreciate OG wasn't hired on the basis of Roy's ill health but it's how things have landed. Who knows how much the health thing is related to the other parts of this story. Either way it's possibly an indicator that Roy needs to step back (aside from the football side of things).

Just my opinion but Roy's health is not the primary driver for bringing in Glasner. It's surely a results based decision and rightly so.

I don't know what your point is re Paddy. My point is that to bring someone in with no previous Premier League experience is a risk. Of course there would also be a level of risk giving the job to Paddy and out of the two I think Parish has made the right call. But I'm sure he did it reluctantly.

It’ll be interesting to see how the club handles the announcement especially given what has happened to Roy. Fabrizio Romano seems to be the source claiming Glasner has signed a 2 year contract and that Roy had been fired. Seems odd then that Roy would be taking training the next morning! I wouldn’t be surprised if they suggest Roy was on board and the intention was for Glasner to take charge in the summer but due to Roy’s health issues the clubs and Roy have agreed a handover now. Saves face all round.

What would be the point in lying?

Because Roy, with all those attributes was doing “so” well.

Ah. The old ‘anyone that’s not Roy argument’ !

You could have the greatest manager, but they still have to work under the Boards direction and within the parameters they decide (including financial).
So the new guy may/not have input into transfers
May/not have input into youth development
And he still, in the short term, has to work with the same squad.

And it would seem CPFC2010 (or whoever) are just as trigger-happy as SJ ever was with Managers,

Lots of reports he's signed a 2-year deal to take over from Roy.

Hugely exciting appointment - an excellent CV most notably with Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga - won the Europa League in 21/22 with Frankfurt, reaching the German cup final the same season.

A very modern, high-pressing manager with a reputation for organising good defensive structures.

The sort of move we should have made in the summer - credit to the board, it looks a real coup.

Agreed. At the very least should have been done beginning of January, when we only had 2 league games and a transfer window. Really hasn’t got long to work with the players but Hoosier get a “ bounce” . I still think 3 wins will do us.

If it goes through it's a dramatic break from what we know.

I would genuinely consider it a new era.

We have no idea how it would affect what happens this season. We may still go down but we have to back this manager as until he remakes the side in his image we won't be able to properly judge.

I think the team will look radically different after he's done with it, both in personnel and style.

Interesting times and of course we all wish Roy improved health and a worthy retirement on a great career.

Xxxxxxx

Wholeheartedly agree Stirling.
But I do think the timing smacks of desperation and fan appeasement. I do hope the fans give the new guy a chance
