First ever post, but I feel I need to say something today. I have NEVER felt so ashamed to be a Palace fan. 40+ years of supporting the club through thick and thin, even through the lean years, and certainly no glory hunter. Today, I just feel ashamed; ashamed at the treatment of Roy who is a good man and who has always had the club foremost in his heart. I'm pretty sure that the majority of real fans appreciate what he has achieved and that he was always going to get us out of the mess that is this season, working with limited resources and being fed a shoestring budget to work on, but my God!! - those Ultras and anyone else with their banners demanding change, you really don't have a clue. You're so systematic of the disease that's going on today. You'd rather hate than build any kind of community, and you can barely string together a sentence, let alone have any valid opinion. But of course, like anywhere, if you shout loudest you get what you want. Now Roy is sick, and you still debate how the 'new' manager will turn out. Pathetic and sad. No doubt I'll get some of you coming on here and ranting and cussing, but I don't really give a damn. Would any one of you treat your father or grandfather like this, or if it happened to them, wouldn't you 'rally' against the injustice of it? I Wouldn't be surprised if half of you have no clue what I'm talking about: and that my friends is why most of the rest of London look at us 'Southeners' as being thick as ****. Unfortunately, I can't help but think that perhaps they're right. I never thought I'd feel this after 40 years of supporting the club, but it's finished, I really hope we get what we deserve and get relegated - and belive me, I'm crying as I say this.

You was doing well there Chris till you wished the club ill at the end

If you have supported Palace for 40 years you should know the score ,a couple of wins and the kids will be talking of sneaking into Europe

Sending love though mate , its never as bad as it seems

And we still need a striker

I recognise that your post is deeply felt and, by the sound of it, being a similar age I can understand where you’re coming from.
All I would say is that we don’t know the full facts and may never know them.
It could be that Roy wanted to step down or there has been an agreement he would step down when a replacement was found.
With regard to fans, Palace fans are no different to any others when results and performances are as poor as they have been this season.
The atmosphere at Brighton was terrible with the Brighton fans openly mocking him and the Palace fans demanding his sacking.
He’s well out of it , but still has a solid career to look back on.

Hey Elpis, maybe you're right, but you know, there's so many things more important than football, and when someone becomes ill because of all the grief they're receiving, you realise you have to prioritise what is most important, and that's people's well being. Palace is in my blood, but right now I'm feeling sick to the core, so you don't have to tell me I was doing well at the beginning ....

Good evening Chris and welcome to the world of HOL !

I am genuinely sad about Mr Hodgson being taken ill and is currently in hospital.I have been thinking of him a great deal and hope and pray he makes a full and speedy recovery.

An ideal scenario for me would have seen us avoid the dreaded drop and for Mr Hodgson to receive tumultuous applause in his final game at Selhurst Park.A send-off to remember with a cacophony of noise raining down from the stands as he waves to the multitudes.

Sadly he will not receive the gratification in this manner, he is fully deserving of fulsome praise for all his efforts.Get well soon Mr Hodgson.

I feel that Roy hasn’t been well for a while and should have retired at the end of last season, i am disappointed by the silence from our chairman who should at least have issued some type of statement giving us some clarity on the current situation at Crystal Palace

Do we know that he fell I'll because of the grief he's getting ? I doubt it to be honest. He's got the skin of a rhino.

What he's getting now pales into insignificance compared to the flack he got at Liverpool and England.

He's older now, and with age generally comes ill-health.

He should never have taken the job on this season, and should never have been put in the position where he felt obliged to take it due to Parish's inability to find a replacement for Vieira.

As football fans who travel up and down the country paying a lot of money every week to follow their club why shouldn't they be allowed to show their displeasure at the bad results and utterly dire football that's been on show for such a long time now? Whether you have the same opinion or not they have the right to do it when it's been so bad. Everyone had enough. They wasn't rioting or anything, it was just a couple of silly banners.
As a Palace fan, today feels really weird. I wanted him out like most of the fan base but also like everyone else I'm gutted hes ended up in hospital on the day it was going to happen and really hope he's ok but it's just total bad luck that it had to be today. The amount of idiots on twitter who are calling us a scummy club for sacking him on the day he fell ill, like he was taken to hospital and the club officials turned up there and sacked him in his hospital bed.
He never came across as being stressed, quite the opposite actually. He always looked like he was enjoying himself to me but at his age things like this happen and he's already been taken ill a couple of times before this season so I dont think it's anything to do with stress. More age, cold, wet weather on the training ground or whatever.
Not quite sure what you're ashamed of and you have gone right over the top, especially if you're crying over it.
You might need to see someone.

Is your personal attack on ‘Roy-out’ people not as simplistic and arrogant as you are suggesting of them?

I’m not an Ultra, I often have an issue or two with them when they think they are above other fans and bring negative attention, sometimes embarrassing. However, the banners were considered and well thought-out.

Maybe it’s because I’ve been sick of hearing all day from moronic no-nothing TalkSport Reporter’s, falsely saying the banners were all ‘Roy-out’ when they were much more aimed at the Board but it’s sad for me to come on here with in-the-know Palace fans turning on themselves.

I guess it’s just a more exciting story that we bullied an old man into hospital but Roy wasn’t standing there looking at an image of his head on a stick with ‘ROY GET OUT’, it was just about the poor running of the Club.

I don’t think any Fan should take any blame, Roy out or Roy in. The Board have allowed a 76 year old Man get to the point where he has been hospitalised so that now they can’t even make a new Manager announcement because they’ve been so indecisive, they couldn’t manage to do this before nearly killing an old man. This is on them.

I don’t agree at all with your statement that either the Ultras or non-ultra Roy-out fans like myself can’t string a sentence together.

His previous illness was when we had 7 points from 4 games. Pretty sure he wasn't getting much grief then

A statement was issued, he was taken ill at the training ground this morning, it seems pretty clear to me.
The next statement will be, that Roy is stepping down due to ill health and X will be taking over a manager. Which is rumoured to be Glasen.
